Ford: design a better dipstick/tube. It’s not hard… don’t be so bendy and put a little collar just before the measuring area to keep it from rubbing along the tube walls. How much more does that seriously cost vs customers/mechanics thinking their oil is off.
I mean seriously, is it just me or is this dipstick hard as hell to get a decent reading from?
It's not just you. The convoluted dipstick tube is ridiculous.
PLEASE DON'T take my post the wrong way!A 5.0 is supposed to go in my newly built truck the week of 4/4 currently.

It's not that I'm worried about the 5.0 itself, I'm more worried about Ford sourcing the heads to build my 5.0.Man, I wouldn't sweat it. I also have a 5.0 being built in the next few weeks. There are a ton of properly running trucks on the roads, so don't be discouraged by a few that you read here. No truck will ever be perfect IMO, so just need to have confidence that if you ever do have an issue, that Ford will take care of it. I have a 5.0 in my 2016 currently and love it. I'm currently more concerned about the price of fuel than if my truck will have problems.
I'd really like to know this from all:Anyone here, with consumption issues, how did you all break-in your truck? Im wondering if this is related to getting to rings to really seat-in during the first 3k miles...
My youngest son has a 2019 Hyundai Elantra, motor locked clean up at 66k...its been in the shop since Feb 9th...and no ETA on when new motor will arrive, or even be approved for a new one. No loaners, no rental...he's had to borrow cars for work for a month. Married and has two kids, has to drive to work at 3:30am...sad.STILL WAITING!

I'm with you man. One thing I did read on the mustang forums, some recommend engine breaking (like leave it in 1st, rev all the way up, then let it come down on it own). Supposedly, it seats the rear area of the rings. I did do that often on mine also.I'd really like to know this from all:
Did you run the piss out of it the moment you got it, or did you baby it for the first few thousand miles?
I'm in the run the piss out of it camp, have done so on all new engines I acquire and haven't had issues (I don't own a coyote.) Right off the lot and straight to the speed limiter as quick as she'll get there.
I’ve done this on every engine ive had rebuilt.I'm with you man. One thing I did read on the mustang forums, some recommend engine breaking (like leave it in 1st, rev all the way up, then let it come down on it own). Supposedly, it seats the rear area of the rings. I did do that often on mine also.
what were the two issues that were identified and resolved? What issues are still out there? Some? The majority, especially after 2 issues identified and resolved.
Yes, some issues still out there, but chances are good that "you" wont see an issue.
Sucks to get bad/failed parts when there are no replacements available thats for sure.
is that sound just your truck or do all the v-8's have it? Any idea what it is?I love my 5.0. It goes from zero to WOOOHOOO!! really quick. It kinda stinks the electric whine of whatever is running all the time drowns out the engine sound with the windows down but you get used to it.
There was a batch of dipsticks that were too short. This resulted in extra oil being added to hit the full line. The throttle body was closing too much during certain conditions, causing higher vacuum.what were the two issues that were identified and resolved? What issues are still out there?
Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about ordering a new f150 and can't really decide on engine. I test drove the 5.0 and liked it. I need to drive the 2.7 also. milage looks pretty close so dependability is what I'm wanting most in a new truck......and this will be my last truck too hoping for 20 years of service........plus the 5.0 sounded sweet. To be honest the 3.3 is all I could ever need, but can't get that engine in the Lariat and i really want 4AThere was a batch of dipsticks that were too short. The higher vacuum and too much oil was causing excess oil to be forced into the intake manifold and burned.
Dipsticks replaced. Throttle body code modified. This resolved a bunch of issues.
