Huge Vanguard fan here. Love both their S&P500 and their Total Market VTI. They've been killing it for a few years.
True that! Vanguard is who I use too. Been retired going on 10 years now and all my investments are with Vanguard and the S&P index stock. Been double digits every year but one.

This was a more informative thread than I anticipated. I salute you guys for not getting caught up in a "who knows more" debate that takes away from the usefulness of the forum and this thread!

Funny thing is that I was really against getting a new car/truck because of the depreciation, but my former car was breaking down and the repair costs where higher than the value of the car. I had to get another vehicle, and decided to go with a new vehicle after seeing the crazy used vehicle prices. Ramsey was in my head too, but I said screw it! I make good money. I can afford it! The house isn't paid off, but oh well! Using some of the tactics others have mentioned in here should help me pay off the truck "for free" in the long run. Thanks for the great read, folks. God bless and stay healthy!

Ouch. You missed the Lariat deal that was on earlier in the year. There was also an XLT deal that was on at roughly the same timeframe as well. Caveat was that it was only 2 year leases and started with 16000km/year, but you could pay more for more mileage.
Was it available in Ontario? But yeah, I definitely may have missed out on some deals, but I wasn't home and able to shop for a truck, unfortunately. I am still happy with what I am getting and how much I am paying given the circumstances, though.

25K/year was a must for me. This is my first time leasing. Hopefully in 3 years I will be able to get a better deal!

I’d like to know what brokerage account you have that’s earning over 10%?
If you're NOT over 10% you seriously need to switch to either Vanguard or Fidelity. They are the best two out there. Fidelity is geared more towards active trading and Vanguard's focus is more on buy-and-hold investing. We just had the largest and longest bull run of history, you should have been making gains...

Yeah, sweet returns in just the benchmark without having to think about it or research investing.

Yep, right there with you. Since 1993 mine has doubled on average every 5 to 7 years, one reason I don't have a truck payment and retired at 56.

I have a Fidelity account, but I haven't done much with it yet. I have stocks in eTrade, which all earn dividends between 9-11%, but I also do a lot of crypto trading too. I'll have to look into Fidelity more though.

$0 down and $740 for 72 months.
Added the taxes into the financing too.
I had $10k set aside for down payment and taxes, but didn’t need to use it.
Used that money for a bedliner, stereo upgrades, a new couch, and some more Dogecoin.

I'm a little baffled by all the static this thread has produced. Seems like great question and the answers from people who aren't sniveling about "this or that" are quite informative.

$49,355.00 MSRP on a FULLY loaded RCSB 4x4 5.0

$20K down, $495 a month.

FORD is AWESOME!

We're way off topic here, but as a fellow Vanguard customer, in my 20 years' experience, they're the bottom of the barrel. When the S&P is up 30%, the fund vendors like Vanguard are up 15% and volubly overawed by their happening to not make a total cluster-f of the year in a secular bull market. In years when the market is flat or down, the V (and others) declare it's not their problem and assure me a flat or negative is just one of those tough periods to be endured. F them. I retired in 2000 and part of my retirement "plan" was to completely remove Vanguard and Morgan Stanley and Fidelity from any control of my capital. Of course, the last 18 quarters have all been insanely bullish, but I'm up 400% in the last two years by not leaving my capital sequestered in their vaults.

I am not sure what you're talking about. If you invest in VOO, you are in the S&P500, clean. They are not taking half your returns. Their fee is .03%. Pennies, just pennies. No one can consistently beat the S&P500, which is why IT is the benchmark that everyone compares to. So if you cannot consistently beat the 500, just buy the damn 500.

I hate payments, just regularly set aside money and when there is enough in the bank but something. I guess they are still payments but you make them in advance and dumping it into an investment account can pick up some return on the way there.

Think I’m minority in this but I work in real estate finance and this is what basically every I know does even despite “cheap money”. I think the lesson you learn trading real estate is you always guaranty the most leverage when you go to sell if you don’t have to do anything. I think one thing people don’t understand about a lot of assets is how much more money you can get from them if you don’t have to sell and get to dictate the sale terms.
