XLT trucks with push button start cup holder/ambient lighting

Here's what it kinda looks like, camera is over-exposing it. I have the door panels off inside, this is the rear passenger side. I matched the truck's voltage on high, not as bright as the photo makes it look though, still looks good.

the 4 pin connector youre showing is the door lock connector, pin 1 is your switch illumination. theres no ground on that connector.

I'm grounding to a bolt in the door. Illumination is coming from violet white in the front and violet gray in the rear. Both dim via dash dimming and are completely off when the illumination is off.

sounds good, ground can be anything. Id maybe start a new thread for this mod, theres way too much going on in here already and people are gonna get confused with connectors and all that? just a suggestion.

Such is the problem w/ forums where more info gets added to a post and then it's a mess. Perhaps the mods will incorporate chatGPT api to make a real search function to deliver people the straight dope on a topic.

Thank you, will do. I have the OEM foot well lamp part numbers, but missing the media bin and cup holder light part numbers.

Do I just ask the parts counter for "the media bin light fixture and the cup holder light fixture(s)"? Or are their other little parts or trim pieces critical to the installation I should know about? Does the cup holder job replace the whole cup holder, or are you just adding lights to the existing cup holder assembly? Thanks again

This is for XLTs already with the connector on the driver and passenger sides. Here is the C2280C plug, remove the white handle, make sure you note which way it was on there. Remove the black cover over the wires, there will probably be some Velcro holding it on, I just removed it and added some new Velcro when putting it back.

Next you’ll see the red pin holder in this connector, this must be remove before installing the jumper.

Once removed you can insert the red jumper in the marked red slot below. It will be four over from the left. It should slide in easy, look at the others already in there for the way it needs to face.

Put the red clip back in, the black cover back on and the white handle.

Run the red jumper up to the white connector C212, you can release it from the holder to bring it down to work on inserting the pin.

Remove the green pin holder and insert the pin, look at the others for the correct facing way. It should just slide in easy, once its in, insert the green pin holder back in and connect it back up. The red mark is the pin 30 location.

Clean up the wire with some Velcro and put the gray cover back over the fuses/connectors.

Once this is done you can make your changes in Forscan if you haven't already.

Wow, to add cup holder, media bin, both front foot well lights the Ford parts are only ~$90 total. That's half what I was expecting. With @JHForman812 harness + help from this thread this is a very accessible and cool mod. Thanks guys!

Does anyone have a picture of the front media bin light location? I have the light but I'm not sure where exactly it goes? I'm ready to install it when I get back from vacation and I want to make sure it goes in the correct location.

@Texas2022XLT - Thank you for adding the step by step for the jumper. I've read, reread, reviewed, gone back to reread, and still wasn't quite sure I knew enough to try this. I've never wired a jumper before, and I've bricked computers by experimenting in my younger years. I'm terrified of bricking my truck (probably irrational fear, but fear nonetheless). you've answered the question I was still figuring out how to ask!

Found these when I was looking as well for the OEM location. I have also seen people put it more towards the center or between the two indents where that stupid "phone holder" thing goes. So it does not really matter. I'm probably going to try to center mine a little better since I don't have the wireless charger and the USB slots are already illuminated.
