There are wiper motors to repair failed units, just not enough to replace everyone's non-failed.

Mine failed last night. Went to dealer today and they have already replaced it and am back on the road.

Got mine today, and leaving for Florida on the 31st, but doubt there will be any repair parts anytime soon. Not as far a drive for me, only about 10 hours.

You probably found 2, one on each side. I believe these are a key that helps position the wiper during the assembly process. I don't think they are needed afterwards.

Yup those appear to be the alignment keys.

I just looked and didn't see any on mine, but I've seen other posts and pictures with people saying they are temporary keys for positioning the wipers.

Dealers have replacement motors on hand, they've been instructed to only replace failed units until additional stock becomes available.
