Had a dealer call me and say there is a known issue with my truck (21 2.7xlt) that they won't be issuing a recall for. He said that they are reaching out to their customers to get them in for the work before the 5yr/60k is up. Either this is a monumental improvement in customer service or there is some incentive for them to do this. What am I missing? Any thoughts?
sounds like they are looking to add revenue by soliciting maintenance work. Yes it is a known issue, yes, it is something that needs to be taken care of.

I don’t understand why you’re so cynical about the dealer contacting you in my opinion is what a good dealer should be doing

Sounds like a scam.

They are trying to get you to trade it in on a new truck.

Your truck needs to have the cam phasers fail before Ford will warranty it, what they are doing is warranty fraud.

Could just be trying to drum up business for their shop?

if it's an issue that warranty would cover it's a win / win. You get a issue fixed under warranty and their shop gets to bill Ford. Honestly, if it's on the up and up, sounds like a good service manager.

Year ago I worked at a GM Dealer. We had a Toyota dealer call asking if we had any Toyota trucks on the lot. They informed us about the frame issues and told us we could bring the trucks over there to be inspected to see if they qualified for a frame replacement.

I've never heard of the 2.7 having common cam phaser issues...

My dealer called and asked me to bring the truck by for a free air filter replacement. They followed up asking if they could come by the house and do it.

They can’t make money unless your truck is at the dealership. Once you take it in they have lots of ways to make money: warranty work, maintainence that you pay for, they can offer you money for yours, and maybe even sell you a brand new one.

About every other oil change when i go to pick it up my service writer brings me the keys and the used car buyers card is on the key ring. The service writer says some variation of, “the used car buyer was out in the shop and happened to see your truck and would love to make you an offer for it.”

I also, have never heard of 2.7 having cam phaser problems. THE 3.5, 5.0 and my old 5.4, yes they have/had cam phaser issues.

They are just fishing for sales because the sales department is not making their numbers, I suspect, if you did make an appointment for service, it would be a couple of weeks down the road. Just my take on it.

A couple things
Is your dealer in your opinion of past service etc, a straight shooter?

Is the "inspection" free, and if by some weird event is said event covered under what ever warranty you have, whether it's factory or ESP?

If you don't have a warm fuzzy
Then say no thanks
Imo
i was under impression csm phaser issues are a non issue for 2.7 ,..but then again machines do break.

My dealer is superb at not doing hokey things.......that being said, they also are in business to make profits
Every now and then. I forget to replace air filter before they do the oil change..and have ps8d imo a steep price for a new one, compared to same filter elsewhere

He also likes to send email about every 6 weeks..
How are vehicles, I noticed xxx is approaching oil and filter change,
May I get you in the service que, for mobile service etc
Or your 22 is approaching 40 month service???
I had to look that up,
Or hey Robert, I have a new king ranch .....and yours has mucho equity...no. pressure, just moving vehicles.

I trust this place, based on how they treat us and other customers
But at same time...I don't line up to give away money

You really have a better chance of winning the lottery than you do having phaser issues with a 2.7.

We had a similar issue a while back. Obviously new vehicles are not selling well, and the dealers want used ones, as those are the ones they really make a killing on money wise.
