Wait one second. You have the incident on video and can identify him as the driver and that is not enough for an arrest?
Here is the video

Went out into the city for Dinner tonight and got rear ended. Complete stop at a red-light and get blasted from behind by a crackhead in a jeep. Not even joking about the crackhead part. Bedside destroyed as well as Rear bumper. Hopefully the frames okay. Going to take to body shop on Monday. Trucks the easy part. Wife's back is hurting pretty bad so we wil see how this goes.

I am sure sorry to hear about that. That's terrible we have so many drug addicts and alcoholics driving on our roads. Wishing your wife a speedy recovery.

I couldn't even read the whole thread... I had to skip to the end to reply as fast as I could.

I've been an officer for 30 years, and it's sh*t like this that makes all the great officers, who actually do, do a great job every day, look like
a$$holes. I have been in line-level, supervisory, and command level positions, and I currently supervise my internal affairs unit (among others). I've never heard of such BS that if someone is "out of their car" that you can't take any action because the officer "didn't see them driving". That is just flat-out false. Almost all incidents are witnessed by someone else and then reported to the Police. Officers rarely personally witness a crash or other criminal incident... Not to mention that even if that is some leftist department policy to "prevent people from being falsely accused" ... You have video and images for proof! I'd call and work that up the chain of command until someone listens.

I'd make sure your insurance has the video and images of the other guy driving and you should throw an absolute fit if they even hint at raising your rates for a claim. It should be 100% the other guy's insurance that pays for your repairs and your wife's medical bills (if she has any).

FYI,

Everyone look at your uninsured/ underinsured auto policy limits. Max it out. To many people driving with no insurance or just state minimum.
If you’re injured during an accident you will be covered smartly.
The cost to max it out is not to bad.

First and foremost, so glad to hear she is feeling better.

A perfect example of the value of investing in cameras. But if the camera footage doesn't even benefit the victim because of the APATHY of our insurance and law enforcement agencies?

The world just has me scratching my head more and more everyday.

What someone else said - looks like he was trying to run away.
Willing to bet money he was on the phone.
I am not a cop, but I am also willing to bet money on the fact that the police cannot charge him with DUI because they did not see behind the wheel is bullshit.
I was involved in an accident where a DUI backed up into me (there is a thread here with video, don't have time to link it now). There is an insurance company on the police report, but turns out that the scumbag was not insured and now I got a hit on my premium for the next 5 years (yeah, I know, even though I was not responsible for the accident, that's what Travelers do). I hope in this case the jerk with the Jeep (another cult...Jeep) really has insurance.

Hope your wife is OK.

They don’t do anything about fleeing the scene these days anyway, I totaled my Expedition with a drunk driver, took an airbag to the face, was bleeding, and the cop said I was young and to shake it off. They found the guy at his house drunk after he fled, decided nobody gets tickets and it’s a no fault. The guy worked for OSHA, the irony.

Ouch... that is a familiar scene, but you got it much worse. We even have the same dashcam. This one took place about 15 months after my 2020 Platinum (also star white) was hit in the front. Neither truck had their first registration renewal yet. Both times in a city, this in Newark.

Every car that's hit me was a Honda, but my neighbor did rub the NEW bumper with her 6-inch-past-the-fender-tires JL Wranger. Tiny bit of damage but I let it go after confronting her with the footage. So, I feel you on the Jeeps. Hope it gets covered with no expense to you.

When it comes time to upgrade to a newer F150, there will be a beater for the cities/commute.

As a police officer, I want to ask you a question.
I'm in Canada, so maybe our laws are different.
I had a friend that was hit head on by a drunk driver, on the highway here. He spent 2 months in the hospital and did suffer some life long injuries.
In Canada, if the other driver was charged with DUI, their insurance becomes invalid, and the the only recourse for suing for injuries, etc, is to go after the offender in court.
In my friends case, the RCMP purposely didn't charge the other driver with a DUI, but rather dangerous driving, so that the drunk's insurance would become liable to pay for all my friends medical costs, future rehab, loss of income and future issues. He did get a sizeable initial settlement and was paid for all of the stuff he needs to carry on with his life.

If the RCMP charged him with DUI, my friend would have had to sue someone with no money to pay for his recovery.

Am hoping the best for your wife. I may be wrong, but I'd take the dash cam footage and hire a lawyer !!!! Too bad they can't test the "clown" now for proof he was messed up !!!!!!!!

Same brand dash cam I have. "Blackvue for your safe driving."

I don't think the guy was going to stick around if you wouldn't have jumped out of your truck.

It doesn't appear the guy even slowed down, probably fucking around on his phone.
