I love my 2022 Lariat and with everything going on the past year feel lucky to have Bluecruise, heated wheel, and even park assist that I'll likely never use. The interior is a huge upgrade and was the main reason I gave up my 2020. It didn't hurt that after 2 years of use I was able to sell it for nearly what I paid new.

But looking at 2020's owned by others at work and old pics of my 2020 I think that objectively the previous generation was a more handsome truck. Part of it is the boring Lariat Sport grille Ford uses I suppose...or maybe I'm a chrome guy and don't know it.
100% agree with you. I liked the exterior of my '19 Lariat FX4 much more than my '22 Lariat FX4. I think the Gen 14 looks kind of "toy-like" in comparison. I only traded the '19 in because of all the problems I was having with it

IMHO...

- Headlight output is obviously an upgrade on 14th gen, but the 13th gen headlights and tail lights had a more interesting shape, at least along the outer edges (toward the side of the truck).
Agreed... I really liked the way the headlight "gripped" the grill with the top and bottom extensions. Granted, the LED on my 22 is worlds brighter.

- 14th gen side profile is a bit more handsome with the rounded belt line vs. sharp crease of the 13th gen.

- Certain Sierra models are the best looking trucks out there. The Denali has way too much chrome. But then again, GMC has those strange ultra-flush front bumpers...
Again, Agreed... I felt like both F150 and Ranger had softer bodies compared to a Tacoma or Ram. 14th gen seems a bit more aggressive to me. Some models of Sierra are the best looking, mainly AT4 or Elevate w/out all the chrome.

Reading this got me thinking.... I really like the 14th gen but it's an upgrade from my 13th gen. And the 13th had chrome and I really did not like the chrome. So it's not a fair comparison.

When I decided on a new car, I was shocked at how good the Gen13 looked. It looked like it was modern without being alien like GMS or Toyota. I was a little disappointed when I realized the model changed for 21 and I would be getting a different truck.

If I really had to choose one, I would choose the exterior of the Gen13. The design was a revolution (for Ford trucks), with its notched headlights, swept hood, and notched tail lights. The Gen14 looks like it went back to the Gen12 with its frumpy massive tail lights. Though this is a case of one being 10/10 and the other being 9.5/10 for me.

I like the Gen14 much more now. I even thought I would hate the Lariat front end, but I found I really liked it in person.

The 14 is handsome enough, in my opinion, but definitely needs to have that silver grill portion addressed. I've been pondering for a while.

I’m with you on the chrome, I personally prefer a truck with a chrome bumper and grille. An additional bonus is they don’t get rock chipped nearly as much as a painted bumper or grille.

I swapped out my grille for the chrome XLT grille for about $200 as it was personally my favorite design. I just have the XL though, and that black grille just looked awkward on my truck since it’s fleet white. The chrome grille definitely lifted the looks in my opinion.

Here’s the XLT grille which I purchased from Amazon of all places for anyone else that is in camp chrome ??

My last five Ford trucks, in order of which I thought looked better (top = best):

1. 2017 F350 Platinum 6.7L PowerStroke Superduty SCrew 4x4 6.75'
2. 2021 F150 Platinum 5.0L SCrew 4x4 6.5'
3. 2015 F150 Platinum 5.0L SCrew 4x4 6.5'
4. 2012 F150 FX4 3.5L EB SCrew 4x4 5.5'
5. 2011 F150 XLT 5.0L SCrew 4x4 6.5'

No offense, little brother, but the Superduty is the baddest mofo on the block!

Of all the many vehicles I've owned (and sold) in my life, THIS is the one I wish I had never gotten rid of (well, except for the current price of diesel fuel). I'd choose to get this back before I'd take my 2016 Corvette Z06!

I do love my '21 Platty, though.

Having a 12G, 13G and now a 14G, I can say I personally like the 14G the best. LED lights in XLT with the running lights, side badging, hood and lack of the tiny oem fender flares are all much better in my opinion. I do miss the side mirrors from the previous gens and did love that the sport grill was painted and not plastic looking like the current gens. Ford has always made the best looking trucks in my opinion, no matter what generation!

This is all personal taste, so it’s pretty moot imho.

Some people love a fox body Mustang, some think they’re uglier than sin.

I had a 2015 F150, when gen 13 came out, holy cow, I fell in love with my gen 12 all over again. Then gen 14 dropped and I had to do some real convincing a gen 14 would be a better option for our family than a Bron (it has been).

I personally do not care for how much the headlights try to wrap the grill on the Gen 13s.

I hate it on the Super Duties too.

Yes, it is inconsequential and there is no one answer. I could say that about half the threads on this and every watch, car, pool, gun, mechanics and guitar forum I've ever visited. I wouldn't call it moot simply because it involves personal taste. A whole lot of people paid well to be designers and stylists would say it's more scientific than most would ever imagine.

Was just trying to start some interesting conversation and as far as I could tell that was happening.

I think 2021+ with STX grille is the best looking variant

Certainly worse threads that have been posted.

Some people seem to be getting worked up about it though…

First time truck owner here and I definitely like the look of the Gen 14 over the previous version.
