That sucks. The place I went is about a mile from me. The guy who owns it is a dick, but they're cheap and they do a good job, so I'll put up with him for 5 mins.
Yea I contacted places that are closer to me but when i was emailing/ talking to the guys at Redline they were super upfront and very helpful with my questions and slightly cheaper than others so I thought the drive was worth it. The place is in Shelbyville Ky. so it’s getting into horse country so it’s a pretty drive!

Now that I’ve really looked at the truck more closely( I had my 1 year old daughter with me at the tint shop who was way overdue for a nap)
I’m thinking I should have gone a bit darker on the rear glass. To me it looks lighter than the back doors (factory privacy glass) It may just be because the back glass is straight and the doors have a slight curve to them. I’ll see how they look once we get a good sunny day

As it's not far from getting warm again here in Texas... I figured I would finally get some tint done....

Last time around, I was persuaded by the company I went with to put a metallic tint instead of the straight ceramic as I was obviously dealing with both a black truck and a moon roof (but I didn't do the windscreen on the last truck)..... It made a bit of a difference but in truth I was a bit underwhelmed..

Does anyone have any thoughts on metallic vs ceramic (particularly if you are in Texas) and doing the windscreen in ceramic or not? I'm not overly worried about having the blackout look on the windows (unless that helps with heat reduction).

Interested to hear thoughts?

Just got my fronts done and can’t be happier! I got whatever that geoshield ceramic stuff is, the top level one in 20 percent.

The amount of heat blocking with that stuff is amazing! I might go back and get the windshield done in clear (no tint) just for the heat blocking capability.

Ceramic is better.

If you have a quality ceramic professionally installed (which generally comes with a long-term, if not lifetime, warranty) -and- were underwhelmed with metallic, why even consider it.

I had installed XPEL installed on all the glass in the greenhouse; gray-shade rear & sides; blue for windshield & moonroof. - Although the interior would heat up over time in the S. TX summer, temps would drop noticeably quicker and stay cooler better.

I’m not in Texas but I went with ceramic 20% in the front and the equivalent to 15 in the rear and on days when I’m sitting in my truck waiting to pick my son up from school and the sun is beating through my driver window I can tell a huge heat difference with my window up vs down.

Well, re the tint itself, and looking into it, some metallic's appear to have higher heat rejection than certain ceramics and vice versa, even within the same brand... and it's quickly becoming obvious it's product related hence I have asked here as to people's specific experiences...

Also, the reality is that I don't know whether being underwhelmed was because I didn't do the windscreen or the performance of the tint itself...

That's a subjective evaluation. Compare the IR & UV rejection of each (vs) the increase in cost, then determine if the benefit received it worth the expense.

Yes, you will find a much better result, regardless the path if you tint the windshield (&, if equipped, the moonroof). - A removable sun shade will aid the reduction of (but, like the tint, will not completely remedy) heat soak over time. However, the sun shade is worthless when removed and you are driving, whereas the tinted windshield continues to provide benefit.
