Turbo whistle

I have a 22 PowerBoost and from time to time I hear a whistling noise while driving, seems to be when under load. It was doing it quite a bit the other day while I was towing a camper. The first time I heard it I was going up a mountain road in Estes Park Colorado. I think it could be the turbo wastegate? Just want to find out if it would be a cause for concern or just annoying? Doesn't ever seem to happen during normal everyday driving.

Turbo noises. Some people pay to hear this. I don't think there's anything of concern as long as the truck drives fine otherwise.

when I was a kid in the early 70’s we would find these empty applicators on the shore of Lake Erie, my friends dad called them Beach Whistles. And then laugh his ass off when we tried blowing thru them….

this has nothing to do with Turbo Whistle, but that made me think of this story

with that 22 PowerBoost, the whistling noise you're hearing under load, especially when towing or climbing, sounds like it could be the turbo wastegate.

It's a common thing, nothing to freak out about unless it gets worse.

If it's just annoying and not affecting performance, you're probably good.

Whistle is not the wastegate unless you have a problem. Under load, it’s the compressor creating the whistle as the boost kicks up. Totally normal.
