How does one lock out those gears?
Download your manual off Ford.com. It has a lot of good info in it. When I shift into D I will press the (-) button three times to remove 8-10 gears. Gear 7 is the 1:1 ratio and that gear is the highest one I will use. You will still get the turbo kicking in but you can press the (-) again to downshift. It takes some practice but after you tow for awhile it becomes second nature.

I have a 2021 PB with tow package and just went through a nightmare with my truck and transmission overheating! I posted on this forum and got a lot of good feedback from members. Bottom line is though every Ford technician and dealership I went to all said the same thing that I shouldn't have to lock out gears or even run the truck in tow-haul mode with my 8,000 lb trailer at normal highway trailering speeds.

After months of dealership visits across the US and Canada and a new transmission with no resolution they finally changed the complete transmission cooler and so far no more problems but it only happens after several hours of trailer towing which I am currently not doing so only time will tell.

I bought a ODBlink MX+ and keep my eye on all my temps now on the Phone app.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Really? The Ford Techs said not to use Tow/Haul for towing a 8k trailer. The manual clearly states the opposite. To be honest, I really don't believe much anymore from the young Ford techs I've had working on my truck over the past 2.5 years. Seems like most don't know much about towing. I"ve learned more from people here. There are exceptions granted. Most of the old experienced techs have retired or can't work on the new tech truck like the PB.

My 22 3.5 in tow mode locks out 9&10. Just did 400 miles pulling my 25 foot trailer in the mountains at 100+ degrees out side, my temp never moved from normal spot.

I wonder if Ford made a change from 2021 to 2022. My truck doesn't lock out the gears when I go into tow/haul mode. I have to manually lock them out.

Not sure on any changes. I did find it’s best to use manual on down grades to keep from down shifting too often do to braking. I did notice once on a long flat it did go to 9th but only for a second.

Good question. Since I’ve only had the truck a couple months I’m still learning all of its features. What I can say is that I was in tow mode the entire time. Which I believe disables gears 9 and 10. I was also in 2h the whole time.

With respect to boost. I have no idea. I’m not even sure how to check that. I suspect I need to swap out one of the gauges on the display to show boost. I have yet to make any of those kinds of customizations to my console display. How do I do that?
Tow/Haul mode does not lock out any gears on my MY22 XLT PB.

Just the liquid to liquid cooler stocked up on the side of the transmission. It works pretty well as long as your ECT's are in check. It sounds like there is definitely an issue with the OP transmission if he's seeing almost 300°
I had issue with mine. I was up to 251° while towing my 26RR (31' overall). It was probably about 8000#.

Turns out there's a form of thermostat that lets warm coolant help warm up the trans, and then it closes. And then when the trans gets hot it opens to let the hot trans fluid exchange with the (relatively) cooler engine coolant.

Mine was stuck about 1/4 way open.

I haven't dug into the coolant system on this truck a whole lot yet. I did on the old 2013. Mishi rad, mishi thermostatic 25 row oil cooler, Saudi raptor trans cooler, trans lines front to back, 6AN turbo coolant lines, metal impeller water pump. My 21 runs cooler with the stock system.

One thing to keep in mind w/ the PBs is that the trans fluid cools the electric motor as well. I was pondering about the efficacy of installing one of their aux fluid pumps to increase the water flow to the trans removing engine RPM from the equation of cooling water flow to the plate heat exchanger. Fluid/oil cooling plates are very effective, but with poor water flow it's not going to work that well. Curious if the cabin heater pump has good enough flow for this purpose. Belows shows the valve that opens for sending water back to the trans.
