I know that the proper way to check these transmissions is to have it level and at 205 degrees.

But I let it sit over night so it was cold. Check the fluid just to see where it would fall on the stick.

If I understand the correct level is between 5-6 on the numbered sticks. And the fluid will expand as it gets hot so mines seems to be way over full even at cold.

I have about 5 and a half quarts in already and it is at the bottom of the stick. Still have a few more quarts to go if I am going of what’s was taken out.

I did drop the pan and filter.

What do you all think 🤔

Maybe because I didn’t have it running

Yeah, it needs to be hot and running.

Fluid drains out of the transmission components and into the pan when the engine is not running.

If I remember correctly when I helped the son-in-law do his truck it took right at about 7 1/2 quarts after a pan drop and filter change

Thanks

I did put what I pulled out back in and checked it while running and at 205.

It was over full but I have a drain plug on the new pan so I just drained and checked until it was within range.

Does each graduation mean a quart? Like from 5 to 6?
Not sure but maybe

If we are going off of that measurement. I drained about half a quart to get it within range.

Just to be sure…between 5-6 hot is correct, unless powerboost then it’s between 3-4. What engine do you have obert?

Here's an idea for Ford (and every other manufacturer)......make a cold full line.

I guess that would be too easy....

Used to be that way on older cars. 👍

The small stick really sucks to try and check when hot and level.

Yes 5-6 correct for you, obert. Question on the removal and install…. were you able to drop the pan easily or did you have to remove crossbars or jack the tranny up like some engines do? What aftermarket with the drain plug did you buy? I too have the 2.7 but only 6K miles at the moment. plan to do it later. Any pointers?

When I met my wife, she had an old Civic with an under hood dipstick. As I recall it was something like a 2 quart drain and fill with a cold check like checking the oil on an engine. Nice.

This is the video I used.

I did what he did and unbolted the transmission mount from the transmission and let the exhaust attached.

If you don’t raise it you will not be able to get the rear pan bolts all the way out.

I worry about stuff so I bought a new pan gasket and replaced. A lot of people don’t. Now I have a used spare gasket and stock pan lol

Check to see if you have a transmission cooler. If you do there are extra steps to take and a couple of O-ring style gaskets that the cooler lines need to go into the transmission. I bought some without looking now I have to return them.

I bought a stock pan with a drain plug from American Truck. Was around 100 instead of 3-5 hounded for a fancy pan.

I’m not sure if that would be easy or not. When I did my check after the truck sat for a couple weeks fluid was at the top of the fill hole. Then when checked hot it was at the normal mark for full. Did some other things so the truck sat for another day, I checked it cold again and it wasn’t to the top of the hole this time but higher than when it was checked hot. It’s a very finicky system to measure so I actually credit Ford for idiot proofing the check procedure. It seems extremely easy to misinterpret the level otherwise.
