Did you get your transmission to operating temperature and actually verify your fluid level? For those who follow the Ford recommendations on lubricant changes... No Sweat, if your goal is to simply get to your trade in, that works fine. For those who take a longer view, changing out lubricants early and using synthetic oils, you can make your truck go 30 years. I spent a career driving, operating, maintaining and repairing nuclear Subs. the way they get these ships to go 30-40 & 50 years is, in part by good lubrication, good filtration and oil analysis. I made a family Suburban go 30 years this way and it helped get three boys to bachelors degrees. So like I said, if you just want to get to the next trade-in the owners manual change intervals work just fine. I just take a longer view in the hopes this truck will outlive me...
ExactlyI'd be curious too, since it was previously serviced and could possibly be under/overfilled?
There's a reason Ford requires the temperature to be 205-215F before checking the level.
The first time they changed it out they had a real issue getting the level correct... But they figured it out and on changes #2 & 3 it was set correctly including with the proper temperature. So this drill for me means I'll go in and have then do a change and let me know what the initial level is before change. I'll also have a sample taken... Because I drove home from the hi temp event (~100 miles) and because it cleared quickly (maybe 5 minutes to "back in the band"), I'm not too worried. My dealer is ~140 miles away anyway... But I'll let you know what they say as I'll make sure they understand the symptoms I observed. Who knows, I did some internet searching, and there is a valve that sometimes fails that can cause hi temps... Reinforces my intention to install an analog temp gauge...I'd be curious too, since it was previously serviced and could possibly be under/overfilled?

Thumbs up to that!!There IS an aftermarket 10r80 dipstick solution. And it appears to be well made materials.
But they are really proud of it.
And you have to figure out the level the first time yourself and mark the stick appropriately.
It's becoming more appealing to me all the time.
As well as swapping out the plastic pan for one with a drain plug.
Proud you say!!!! I wonder…?
I'm with you on that portion!Proud you say!!!! I wonder…?![]()
Great find! I'm definitely going to look into getting this for my truck. There's not much to the supplied install instructions there. I guess you have to find a convenient place to mount the top of the tube, and possibly make a small bracket to support it. Plus stay away from the exhaust. I'm going to take a 36" piece of string trimmer line, and see where it leads to before purchasing.
There's quite a few reviews on Amazon and some pictures of it installed nicely on some and tacky on others.Great find! I'm definitely going to look into getting this for my truck. Right or wrong I always do 40-50K for tranny and differential gear oil regardless of what owners manuals say. My olds has been rolling for 52 years and I suspect it will make it another 52 as long as they make gasoline by then.. still on original engine, trans and rearFor those who follow the Ford recommendations on lubricant changes...
