I've had my transmission oil & filter changed at about every 15k. My dealer wondered why. My rationale is to remove whatever manufacturing debris may be in there floating around. I'm aware that Ford upped their cleanliness standards for this transmission facility. Still, there will be some "stuff" that gets in. Think about things: manufacturing, packaging for shipment, un-packaging at the assembly plant, handling to the assembly line, and installation. The only issue was it was slightly under-filled at the assembly plant. This didn't show up until the first winter when temps got down to about 15ºF. Dealer fixed that. Keep in mind that this unit is a hydraulic machine. Clearances in the spool valves are really fine and any debris no matter how fine can screw up a shift. SO far, knock on wood, my transmission is trouble free. Please note that this is not a slam on Ford's manufacturing process. I believe they do as well as can be done. I've seen this with Machinery on Navy Submarines where I spent a career. The issue is simply that there are ways to operate machinery that will make it near trouble free and long lived. My goal is not get to the next trade-in, it is to make my truck last as long as possible. Like my family Suburban that went 30 years and helped get three sons thru college.
