I was really hoping for better.

There is no ground on dozens of household appliances. More or less every lamp ever made, radios, TVs, my phone charger etc.

Hazard a guess at how many homes have no ground available except in the kitchen and bath?

Does anyone know if EV's that offer V2S (Vehicle to Shore, basically can power the house off your EV vehicle) have these same issues with the bonded neutral?

Well the main electrician came back to see if he could see anything that would cause the Generac 6852 not to work. He went over everything again. We found the issue.

In the junction box with the 100 wires there was a bare ground wire that would touch one of the other ground wires when everything was back together. This is what was causing the truck to trip. He rerouted that ground to the other side of the box and wrapped it in tape and voila no tripping of the truck. Something simple and now I do not have to go the extension cord route. This is a wonderful day indeed. :)

You can make an interconnect dogbone of sorts to safely connect the powerboost to the house that does not have neutral switching interconnect. I've simplified the approach due to PMs for safe easy workarounds. Costs about $50 and 15 minutes. edit, new version $38+tax.

https://www.amazon.com/L14-30R-Generator-Locking-Connector-Receptacle/dp/B077HQ6BD9

https://www.amazon.com/yodotek-Generator-Distribution-Indicator-Household/dp/B07TYFP4D1

Cut off the head that has 4 plugs, connect up the new female end, do not connect the ground on the added end. Label the dogbone. Due to its short size, it's got little potential for any other use. You could make a full cord but it's not advised.

Also do not confuse the above cord for the one harbor freight sells that looks similar found here...

Unlike the linked amazon unit, this cord only uses 1 phase. I have not confirmed if the other phase runs into the splitter rubber area or not.
So today I will order all needed parts and will need to have any directions printed up so that I can instruct the electrician on what I want done.

Can you recommend a power cord?

What about the interlock? Do they vary by the panel or are they generic?

Lastly, I guess I need the box I plug in to? Where can I find one of those?

Thanks for your assistance.

*wife said I better get this done before X-mas in case we have another power outage.

I followed HammaMan's instructions and am very pleased with the outcome.

My home is new construction so it's efficient and also gas for many devices. I didn't totally crank on everything, but we had the usual stuff on, 2 frigs, the gas heater, etc and it was only pulling 2 kws. I suspect that the next time that we have a big outage (we had a pretty serious one almost 2 years ago, sadly people passed away as it was so cold for so long) I'll be hangin' in my home with heat, making margaritas & probably enjoying my (gas heated) hot tub. Heck I almost want to lose power just to test it out!

My install cost was $522 to the electrician. The only part he provided was the new breaker that was needed.

I provided the modified dogbone, the interlock & my powercord. My total cost all in was $726 and I can power my entire home. My trucks outlet plug can reach the Generator plug right from my usual parking spot.

Must admit that I was seriously disappointed when I began to read about the bonded neutral issue, turning one of the primary reasons I purchased the truck to being overly complicated and limited in it's features. But the forum giveth!

Happy Holidays!

I suspect the interlock is panel specific since each panel is somewhat different. This is a big deal because you don't want to inadvertently back power the grid. I bought a ready made 240VAC truck to house cable from Home Depot. As to the input box you can get them and put in the kind of plug needed. Again Home Depot (& others like Lowes I'm sure) will have them. Just get a weatherproof box, doesn't need to be fancy. I'll post a picture of what I did later in the day

The interlocks are panel specific.

In my case I called the EC for my home and got the model of panel installed as it wasn't marked on the actual panel anywhere that I could see.

There doesn't seem to be that much variation however and I suspect you could find yours just off of photos on Amazon.

It was a code installation by an electrician. Should make you all warm and fuzzy inside.
This a definition of a shitty electrician who doesn’t know, or care about the NEC. A discredit to my trade

I'm pretty sure you had a smile when you wrote that comment :) . But like in any other trades there are the good and the bad ones. Reading different comments about mechanicians, dealers, engineers, CEO etc... on this forum prove it.

Merry Christmas and Happy new year to all!!
