Welp wasn't a great start to the week. Was hoping to bring the truck to the shop for the transmission issues I have been having, but now we need to go to a body shop instead...

A deer ran into the side of my truck. It hit the front left fender headfirst on the bottom, thankfully not the wheel. Then swinging around, it smacked my driver's side door, scratching the rear passenger door, and knocking off the cab panel. From what I can see, the bed looks clean. It's driving straight for the few miles I have driven it, but I definitely ran it over with the truck or the trailer. Don't see anything on the trailer, so I am leaning towards it was the truck that I felt the tug coming from. With 50k on the truck I have a feeling its salvageable, but I am curious about people's thoughts on the cost to repair it. I am imagining a new front fender, door, and rear cab piece; they likely will buff the passenger door. I am not sure how much they will need to paint. With that much of the truck, I am not sure. But I am really hoping it is all of it lol.

For reference, I had a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Overland with 10k miles back in the fall of 2022. Taking my daughter to school, I locked eyes with a deer that jumped over a concrete jersey barrier in a construction zone. It hit front left fender, bounced off the jersey barrier and smacked the rear quarter panel behind the rear door. It cost $13,000 to repair. I bet yours won’t be that much because of the damage location. They had to graft the rear panel together tying it to the roof.

Being it's a 24 truck i doubt they will send it to salvage, but it's going to be a expensive repair no doubt

It’s a 2022, not being a *insert your favorite derogatory*, just didn’t know if that would change your opinion lol

I feel like my most expensive piece is the door, lots of items that need to get reinstalled. Thanks for the insight tho, I honestly think it’s gonna be somewhere around 10-15k.

Look at all the hair! Having killed many a deer in my lifetime with a vehicle, but none in quite a few years, I can't comment on the cost. However, a good painless dent repair fellow may be able to get the dents out of the fender and they may only need to redo the door and replace the cab corner. Depending on what panels need to be replaced/repaired, they will most likely respray the cab and blend into the roof and hood. Get a few estimates and ask around for a body shop. Good luck.

Totalled my first car hitting a deer at 73mph on the interstate. 86 Plymouth Turismo. Hit it square on in the front. Threw the radiator into the block, crumpled the hood up to the point it made a ramp and the deer went over my car. Ripped a huge piece of hide off on the trim just above my windshield. Almost hit the car behind me with the carcass.

When the state cop showed up he asked what hospital they took the driver to. I told him I was the driver. He looked at me like I was an alien. Craziest part was I didn't have my seatbelt on (it was 1994).

That said, they seem to want to total vehicles for a lot less these days. Probably because repair costs are so insane.

There is a really good PDR guy in my area that could probably do the door too, but looks like a good scratch that would need to be repainted. The damage looks to be less than $10k to me.

As was stated above by @UGADawg96 try finding a good PDR shop. Some of these guys can fix that. The scratches are another story. But you could possibly save a few thousand dollars here.

My truck was safely parked and a short yellow pole from across the lot ran over and beat up my truck. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. Anyway, the pole caused damage to right front fender and the front edge of the passenger door as well as a small crease behind the right rear tire.

I polished the yellow paint off and because my truck is white, the damage is actually pretty hard to see but it hurts me heart so I absolutely am having it repaired.

We are replacing the right front fender ($300 part for OEM) and doing body work and complete disassembly and respray of right door. (Two PDR guys looked at it and they both said they can only fix the small dent behind rear wheel.)

So, new fender + bodywork on lower door for dent /damage a little bigger than my hand and full respray of fender and door will be just under $1,800. Rear wheel / bed dent will be about $150. So just under $2,000 for everything.

Damn pole.

I just got though the exact same damage in my truck. No deer just an old asian grandpa not paying attention in his $1700 Camry ?.

Do not let insurance order door skins and force brand new doors. I can also confirm there is no way in hell that’s totaled.

There is hope in sight mine is all back together and good as new again somehow. Don’t settle for an average repair shop.

Also I was assuming the same as you this may be totaled. Thought the total repairs would be somewhere like 30k …..final bill was less than 15k and I had a lot more damage than you. They will fix that and send you on your merry way and we just eat the loss.

The only shit part about your situation is you can’t sue the deer for injuries and your can’t claim diminished value against their insurance ?

This is my deer collision on my 2019 Platinum a couple of years ago. Antlers hit the front wheel, then the body swung around and hit the driver's door. Wheel took the brunt of the hit, just a couple small dents in fender and door. They replaced the fender and repaired the door. Cost was about $3000. Seemed like a lot of money for just a couple small dents. Could have just left it that way and continued to drive it, but filed the insurance claim and had it fixed. If you look at the one side picture, you can see the outline of the deer's body, including the tail where it rubbed the dirt off the side. I was hunting at the time and thought at least I can take home a nice 8pt buck. Turned around and backed up to the deer thinking I would be loading it in the back. I fumbled around looking in my center consol for a knife to finish it off. When I got out and walked to the back, the damn thing was gone. So big insurance claim and no meat.

Similar damage, but not as bad as yours to my drivers door and running board last summer from a deer. New door and running board, rear passenger door (very minor repair). $4000.

yeah, but if it didn't get too far, you could at least get some dinners from its ass.
