My truck has started a new issue where it has a terrible vibration underneath during the evening commute when it is 100+ degrees and driving. There is no vibration at all during the morning commute though which is odd. The vibration has been getting progressively worse each day and is very noticable in the seat and accelerator petal of the truck. Any ideas or thoughts about where this would be coming from? I thought tire balance but that should not only appear in the heat of the day. Truck is a 2021 with the little Powerstroke diesel and 43,000 miles.
It could be your transmission. Try this: 1) from a stop, hold your foot on the brake, press on the accelerator, and listen for a mushy squeaky noise coming from near the accelerator.
2) while driving at 50mph, set transmission into manual mode, select 8th gear, floor it, and see if you have the shudder or a vibration
You probably have the 10r80 problem that many of us have.

It is suppose to go to the transmission tech while it is at the dealership for another issue so hopefully they find the vibration.

Dealership said the transmission is opened up and parts are on order for the vibration concern.

Ford F-150 Terrible Vibration When Hot IMG_0183
Got the truck back yesterday after they finally got all the parts to rebuild the transmission and the problem is still there. The transmission was indeed destroyed and required all new parts so that part of the vibration issue should be eliminated from the equation. The dealership performed a recall to reprogram the diesel injector IQA values that were incorrect before the vibration became more noticable. Paying attention to the exact conditions that create the vibration on my drive and found the following:

Engine speed is always between 1200 and 1400 rpm which is its normal range the transmission tries to stay in when the vibration occurs.

Letting off the throttle minimizes the vibration at the same rpm range and returns as throttle is reapplied.

Refueled the truck with a fresh tank of diesel from the truck stop to rule out bad fuel with no change. Changing the fuel filters this weekend to see if that is an issue.

Vibration is not as noticeable until the engine gets to normal temperature.

Fuel filters were changed out tonight and had no effect on the vibration issue that is becoming worse. I am willing to bet something in this little diesel engine is about to come undone and it will get a new engine to go along with the fresh transmission. This truck has been an absolute disaster since new and keeps racking up the bills to submit to Ford Motor Company to pay.

At some point isn't Ford just going to write it off and quit throwing money at it?

I asked that and was told they will keep putting money into it until it's fixed by my service advisor. I have also requested to be reimbursed for the payments I have made on this truck for the 220 days it sat at the dealership, loss of my prepaid Bluecruise subscription and connected services subscription so far during that time. Ford has now requested proof of payments be submitted so hopefully they pay me back for all that also.

I hope they get your money back and you can get many years of enjoyment from this truck out of the dealership. I'm sure the dealer is getting tired of the issues too.

The tech trying to fix the headlight problem on this truck for months told my service advisor he needed a break from this truck and was about to snap. I'm sure the transmission tech and diesel tech are going to have the same relationship with this turd.

I'm going to spitball a few ideas here, so don't hate on the random thoughts.

Is there any chance of a misfire on the truck within a certain RPM range? IF they have not hooked it up to watch fuel pressures while driving, perhaps it's an injector issue, maybe plugs, coil packs, etc.

I know on the ecoboost engines (I understand you have the baby diesel), there are high pressure and low pressure injectors and it is easy for one to go bad and not be as noticeable due to the other injector compensating for it.

You also would not necessarily get a CEL if there is a misfire, so it might be worth hooking up either FORSCAN or getting into FDRS to see if any trouble codes are present.

I have also had a ridiculous issue with the A/C compressor and the temperature of the truck. In your situation, if I turned off the compressor, the issue went away. If it tuned the compressor back on, my idle increased by 250-300 rpm and there was some shudder there.

After that, I would start to wonder if the drive shaft lost a weight and is no longer balanced.

Anyways, I hope the midnight, early start to the weekend bourbon ideas dont seem too ridiculous.

Cheers!

The diesel engine is a compression ignition design so there are no coil packs, plugs or any of the similar items needed that a gasoline engine uses to ignite the fuel.

The diesel engine has high pressure injectors that are spraying around 30,000 psi and an injection pump which could be the issue if either the pump is failing or an injector(s) is not functioning correctly. I am assuming this problem is fuel related or possibly something damaged internally with the engine. I have put new fuel in the truck from a different source than the previous tank and now changed the fuel filters to remove bad or restricted fuel from the equation with no change to the vibration problem.

I pulled codes a couple days ago and there was nothing regarding issues that would explain the vibration and there is no check engine light currently.

I will have to try turning the A/C off tonight to see what that does but the diesel engine idle speed does not change when that load is applied and I assume it just sprays a little more fuel to maintain the idle.

I was thinking it could be the driveline or tires at first but it is RPM related for the most part and appears worst between 1200 and 1400 RPM and is not as bad as the engine speed gets above that range. It has to be something before the transmission because it is not based on how fast the truck is moving and only relates to the engine speed.
