Has anyone bought this viscous dampening cartridge for the tailgate from ford. Is it better than others you find or are they all crap. Any better than the other or ford one way better justifying spending extra on it

It's a clean install behind tail light. I haven't owned my truck long and don't know how the prior owner used it. So far it has worked better than the aftermarket dampener on my last truck I threw in the trash.

I just installed one works very well. The bolt are in there unbelievably tight so you will need a T-50 torx and I used a breaker bar

Came with my Lariat with the electronic tailgate release.

I like how it's hidden and not out in open like the aftermarket one I tried on my last truck.

Don't buy it from local dealer get the part number and search online. You'll find most Ford accessories much cheaper that way.

Mines whatever you get from the dealer you change the hinge and the cartridge clips behind the passenger tail light. It’s night and day to what I had before
I didn’t take everyone’s warning seriously figured I have backed out thousands of bolts in cars over the years. These tailgate hinge bolts are caked in loctite so bad it’s like they’re rusted in place, be patient and use the best quality socket you can find

Well, when lot of people use truck for truck things standing on tailgate. Putting weight on it with various loads. You don't want those bolts to move. :)

my wife sat on the tailgate a while back and I told her I needed to check the weight limit

Pretty sure I’m never going to live that one down

I bought and installed one. Well worth it. As said, the bolts are absurdly tight and even a Dewalt 20V impact wrench had trouble.

Blue is plenty for anything. I know lot of people insist on red for some things not realizing OEM use different thread locker colors. Can't say I've ever had blue come loose and I don't want to get out heat to remove red.

It's usually a good idea when working with aluminum and with lug nuts. Harbor freight torque wrench is close enough for most people. I have a big Kobalt brand one I use for lug nuts.
