Sunglass holder broken - Now what?

I'm not exactly sure how the sunglasses holder ate my glasses and when you would push it up, it would not come down at all.

It was sunny out and I wasn't quite thinking but ended up pulling down on the holder which "broke it". Now it flipped down permanently and looks quite sad.

Would have to buy a whole new assembly, or just the part where the sunglasses sit in with the nipple broken on the side?

Things I could kick myself over...

I just had mine to the dealer today for same issue. They have a replacement ordered under warranty. I didn’t ask if they will just replace the case holder or if the whole overhead console will be replaced. Mine went on a -20 morning trying to put it in stowaway position, broken at the nipple like yours. Not sure I will use it once fixed as I can see it easily breaking again and like you… it annoyed me looking at it just hanging there.

Is it broke on both sides or just one? Or does it even have a nipple on the other side?? I haven’t looked.

I would try to find a small screw with a head about the size of the plastic nipple that broke off. Screw it in and leave the head out so it sticks out as much as the old nipple (probably just barely) and see if it will navigate the retaining track.

I personally like this idea better but I wouldn't want it where I can't get it out in a pinch


@XLT_SuperCab I'm curious at what they end up replacing if you can find out. Also how did you word the issue when you went to the dealer? I guess I might just need to make an appointment and play dumb.

Definitely not putting my shades in it again assuming it gets fixed..

I keep them everywhere I may be. Points of egress, vehicles, etc...
Hiding in plain sight.

I just told them my sunglass holder broke and wouldn’t stay in the stowed position. I’m headed back in a couple weeks for first oil change and sunglass holder replacement along with a couple other concerns so will find out then what is replaced. Obviously the nipple seems to be the weakest point in our case.

I actually had mine replaced free by Ford under warranty due to that sunglasses failing to stay latched up. Told my advisor that I had no idea how that happened but it wouldn’t close. He ordered in the new overhead console, swapped it all under warranty and didn’t have to pay a cent. I would tell your advisor the same thing.

Dealer replaced the whole overhead console assembly at no charge today. First thing I wanted to do was test it, but after seeing it hanging there for months I fought the urge. Nice to see it closed flush.
Other truck concerns I had were of course “normal”, but did get first oil and filter change done.

It’s that little tab that breaks every time, I just don’t put anything in there anymore. Kinda defeats the purpose to not use it when you want to use it lol

Not much to that tab for sure. I expect my fishing partner will hop in and say “ hey I see you got it fixed” and promptly test it for me with his all thumbs hand.?

You need to replace the whole assembly for 580ish. I made a new nipple out of epoxy. Filed the triangular shape until it worked right. A free that breaks I’ll put aNo 3 screw in it’s place and file it till it works, forever

Mine broke on Monday. It was oddly stuck shut and so I tried pressing firmer, which opened it, but a black piece of plastic fell into the cup holder. Sure enough, small piece on the right of the holder broke off and now it won’t stay shut.

Going to try the warranty route. Pretty annoyed, probably won’t use the holder again if it’s that flimsy.
