STX fog light install

Just finished fog light install on my 22 stx. Although removing the grill and bumper assembly may seem a little intimidating the project itself really wasn’t that bad. Start to finish it took about 3 hours ( not including beer breaks). The Diode Dynamics video does show everything you need to do.

Going to build my own harness to wire them into the headlights. Will post some pics of that when the parts arrive from Amazon.
As you can see from the pics the ends do justify the means. Very pleased with the outcome.

Interested in the wiring outcome! Diode Dynamics said point-blank that a harness would not work to add their fogs to an STX that didn't come with them OEM. There is another thread on this forum where a guy was able to add them... Looking forward to some clarity!

Yes that’s right, wire them to the low beams. Here’s what I done so that none of the factory wiring was cut into. I ordered these connectors from Amazon (see pics). Soldered them together (one for each side) and simply turned everything into plug and play. Very simple and totally reversible as the splice is done within these connectors.

So with this connectors how do we wire onto the low beam? Is there any cutting to the low beam wiring that needs to be done? I’m a little confused as to how we would wire into the low beam…

All you gotta do is remove plastic loom from the extension harness and solder fog light connector to it. Then unplug factory plug from headlight and plug it into one end of extension harness and then plug the other end back into the headlight and that’s it. Works perfect and you won’t have turn your fogs on every time as they will come on with your headlights. Hope this was helpful.

Your going to have to use a multi meter on the back side of you headlight plug to find the power wire. Then just run your ground to the inner fender right behind the bumper, there is a ground bolt on each side. I would recommended 16ga wire. Or you could just wire it to your battery.

Here’s what I done, I picked up the plugs I needed (as shown in pictures, from Amazon) I then joined them together to make a “extension “ of the factory headlight harness. Doing it this way you tap into the extension and not the factory wiring. I then dropped a wire down to the fog light plug. The only downside is your fogs will come on whenever your headlights are on. Totally reversible without touching factory set up. Hope this helps.
