Long story short, had an appointment to fix turn signal arm not releasing automatically ( sorry my own words) after a left turn.

So according to service adviser it was just a matter of replacing some part inside the turn signal arm.

An hour later, got the keys back and was told everything was fine and left the dealership .

On my way home i tried using the volume buttons from the steering and nothing would work !!! WTF so took next exit and headed back to the dealership just to find out that the fuc&$&@ turn signal arm was still defective !!!

Anyways, 2 techs rechecked all the connections in the turn signal arm and couldn’t find what was going on.

It was getting late so service adviser said they would order a new turn signal arm and would need to investigate the electrical issue in the steering wheel left stack at a later date .

Has this ever happened to anybody ? I mean everything was working fine with the steering wheel buttons.
How could they have screwed something is beyond me…..

So pissed

Just pondering, but I wonder if the issue is with the clockspring in the wheel itself? Did they remove the wheel to replace the stalk?

If both aren’t working, I would also think clock spring.

It happens. Be patient and they’ll fix it. No dealership is perfect and they’re definitely not fast.

electronic technology has made life easier in alot of ways, but it's an nighmare when there are so many computer controlled componets. Did you know that the turn signal ticking sound isnt mechanical, its an electronic sound generated by the computer that comes through front speakers? On my 2021 F150 everytime I shut it off ,upon restart the radio is on a different station. The mechanics nowadays have to have a degree in electronic engineering..Crazy world! Good luck with your issues

Do the right side steering wheel controls work? If so I would think they must have removed the wheel and forgot to plug the switch block back in. These trucks use CAN switches so the entire switch block communicates the individual commands to the SCCM.

There’s a plastic lever on the end of the switch that interacts with the clock spring rotation to do the auto release function. It should be easy enough to test by manually activating that lever and if faulty the entire switch should have been replaced as a unit, if it works then the clock spring should be replaced. Neither component is serviceable so sounds like the dealer is pulling your leg with the “part inside”

The steering wheel right side control buttons
do work, no problem there.

So maybe what they were referring to as « part inside » was the clock spring ? Will check with service adviser on Wednesday.

Thanks for the input

my 21' truck has the same issue.. but going to the dealeship to do anything besides recalls and necessary maintenence is just not worth the headache. Just getting the basics is hard for them to handle

1) Don't worry they will tell you this is "normal" and the computer told them so

2) You will be spamming with the Ford bot shortly don't waste your time it won't help you.

Well i got the truck back today and the good news is that the culprit was in the fact that the CAN switches in the the steering wheel buttons weren’t communicating with SCCM !

So basically it fixed all my issues i had with the outside lighting like puddle lights, tailgate light, rear cab light and interior dome lights not coming on when unlocking the truck.
All this after they replaced the turn signal arm.

Oh well, at least it was all done under warranty.

They also did the recall fix for the wire harness touching the axle tube .

And here I thought I was a little nuts when I swore the arm didn't return back to it's default position after making a left turn. It's happened more than once. I might as well add it to my service appointment to figure out why both left TPMS sensors keep failing, 20 mins into my drives.

Bringing this thread back from the graves….
I still have the random turn signal arm not coming back to it’s original position after i make right turns only, and it’s now doing it more and more .
Called dealership for yet another appointment before my warranty runs out in a week.
Anybody had this same issue resolved by their dealership ?

You can replace the stalk. I had the issue and it was ford put a incorrect stalk with the SCCM.

There are two torx screws that hold the stalk in. It slides out and if it has a black tip it is incorrect for the SCCM and it needs to be a white one. The plastic part on the end of the turn signal stalk. THat is the turn signal reset.

It drove me nuts I fixed it myself. Stalk is not very expensive and you can buy them separately.
