Sport Mode AWD to Normal Mode 2WD

On the 4A, I've heard driving with 4A on all the time in normal helps with the occasional hard shift and clunkiness of the 10 speed? Anyone finding this to be true? I'm in FL, any reason not to be in 4A all the time? Wear life? Gas Mileage? The clunks are the only thing I don't like about my 23 Platty. Everything else, I really enjoy this truck.

You could try something that's easy enough to do, and perhaps you will get improved results with your new 10r80.......

Clear your adaptive tables for the transmission. And then use Sport Mode for the first couple of hundred miles while the adaptive tables are repopulating.
I'm not suggesting driving spirited, necessarily, but rather letting the Sport Mode shifting strategy influence the values that populate the tables.

Then return to your "Normal" driving mode and see if you have a less "clunky" 10r80?

It doesn't cost you anything and you might like the second version of algorithm better than the one you have now.

Just curious, for those of us who don't have 4A, what is the highest you can safely drive in 4H without causing damage to the transfer case or rear diff?

Perhaps "slippery" would apply then. I don't think that turns on the rear locker. The graphics are not the greatest on dash. I can't tell if that is rain or snow but I tested it in heavy rain just to see what it would do.

That is deep snow. ?

I mean slippery it looks like maybe snow or maybe rain but some sort of precipitation. I'll probably try that in normal snowy driving this winter because I don't think deep snow applies to anything I typically see in winter.

No speed limit for engaging 4H or for driving with it engaged, the manual only cautions if you are using your spare tire due to a flat to limit speed to 50 MPH due to the diameter and tread not being an exact match.

I would run up to 45 mph in snow with 4H in my old truck. Turned it off if roads cleared off and on again if I felt slipping when I hit more snow.

If you have Forscan on a Windows laptop, clearing the tables is a couple of mouse clicks.

Then, if you have a Powerboost, follow the directions below, but my suggestion is that you use Sport Mode when doing Step #5-11 all 7 times.

When I needed to go to 4H I just hit the 4H button while in Normal mode, I did not change the drive mode. But that is a good point, I will put it into Deep Snow/Sand today and see how the truck reacts. I'm glad you pointed that out, not sure I would know that unless I was really paying attention to what the truck was doing going into those driving modes.

Apparently Ford has made some changes in their Drive mode to 4wd configurations. As I was playing with the drive modes to see what config I would be in; Yes, Deep sand/snow and Mud Ruts locks the rear end (good to know). But now I'm finding even when returning to Normal from Sport my truck is defaulting to 2WD. It used to stay in 4A. *Unless this is a coincidence since I didn't actually drive in mode, just playing in the parking lot....

I'll have to drive it home in Sport today and see if that will 'stick' it to 4A.
