Speed limiter 2024 5.0

Hi guys,

New to the forum. Got a 2024 F150 5.0 back in August. Awesome truck with only one complaint. The damn thing is limited to 100 flat. I can’t stand it. I’ve tried forscan and made the typical changes that everyone else has made. The speed limiter says “1” for not used.

anyone found a way that successfully removes the limiter?

Yep mine pulls hard to 105 mph then it stops. It feels like there a lot more left to go if it wasn’t held back.

Don't forget to upgrade your tires and your brakes if you find a way to defeat your speed limiter. You will need more whoa and you don't want to be popping a tire at double digits. Remember kids, speed kills, play it safe, buy a Ford!

Checked my key, there isn’t even an option for that in my settings. Forscan shows my key disabled.

I’m not worried about the woah or tires… I’m not a 20 something who has no idea about cars. I got plans for all that stuff.

You need a tune for the PCM to get around the speed limiter. The Police version of the 150 is limited to 119 or something, if I remember correctly.

The topic of Speed Limiters in trucks has been discussed exhaustively over the years. The most significant limiting factor with trucks is the critical rotational velocity (RPM) of the driveshaft itself.

At high rotational velocities, sometimes the driveshaft will fracture and seemingly “explode”, while other times the driveshaft will deform (taking on the shape of a banana or skipping rope) and can pull out of the transmission tailstock, causing a catastrophic failure.

Unless you plan to replace the driveshaft with a custom built unit, designed to operate at a much greater rotational velocity, then you cannot safely increase the programmed Speed Limiter by that much without incurring risk.

The rear gears the truck has directly (and greatly) affect the speed the truck can safely achieve before driveshaft critical speed is reached. The lower (numerically) the gear, the faster the truck can go without reaching driveshaft critical speed. This is assuming equal height tires among any trucks being compared.

has nothing to do with the govt. It’s ford choice to limit their liabilty on a 6500lb vehicle running tires not rated for high speed runs. Remember the Ford tire blow outs lawsuits and judgements?

Yes sir - tire diameter and axle gear ratio effect driveshaft rotation (RPM), however that does not change the structural fact that every driveshaft has a critical rotational velocity. I would not put much faith in overstressing a mass produced OEM driveshaft, where the primary production concern is cost.

If you want to go faster - have at it - but prudence would dictate purchasing a purpose built driveshaft to safely facilitate this change in vehicle usage.
