Just bought a new 2024 f150 with FX4 package. It came with 20 inch wheels. I got under the truck yesterday and noticed the spare tire says for temporary use only. It is close in diameter. Would this great community think I would be better off getting an additional 20 inch matching wheel or just leave it as is

My thought is to leave it. If anything, get a normal tire with a similar diameter and tread pattern to your other tires.

On order ‘22 RCSB.
Agreed with leave it. Just make sure it has air and rotate it in such a way that you can check it periodically.

Thank you for the reply. I was leaning that way but just wanted to see what other thought.

as is like mentioned, I did a complete 5th wheel like my setup, so if I have a flat, I can swap out easily and maintain same size.

The only reason I'd change it is if you tow a trailer far from home.

I've not had need for a spare tire in many years (knock-on-wood) but I'm glad to have a spare that matches my 'road tires' when I'm traveling with my RV just to minimize trip-disruption IF I have a puncture.

(Yeah, my Lariat with 18's came with a matching size / brand / model spare)

There are F150 oem 20" rims on eBay. I'm considering purchase a 20" rim, save one of decent stock tire for spare tire setup.

Yeah I was looking at that also. I just got the truck so I don't have a "spare" tire at this time. I figured worst case, I buy the matching wheel and then when I do end up having to buy tires I will have the tire place mount and balance one of the old tires as a spare on the new wheel. If I go this route I am not sure if I should buy the match wheel now, or wait, and if Ford will do something stupid like discontinue the wheel and I will have a harder time finding one.

Why is that you don't have a spare tire in your truck? I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find the one you want on eBay, shop around for price and free shipping. The spare won't have tire pressure sensor on the rim but it will get the job done.

I said "spare" as I dont have a matching size tire right now. My truck came with 20" wheels and my spare right now is the 18" from the factory.

18" will work. Same setup with my PB.
Yes I do understand that it will work as long as the tires are the same diameter or close to it. However, this is the first truck I have had that did not have at least the same size wheel as the factory ones, I came from 22 F250 Tremor. My question was if I should buy a factory 20" wheel and when I go to buy new tires get 5 or just leave the 18" one and not mess with it.

Personally, I would wait till tire threads are low enough for replacements. Save one with decent wear for spare 20" rim (factory with same style as rest, just no sensor) and be done with.

I've needed and used a spare too many times on road and off to not have a matching spare. When I installed new tires on my truck I had them put a matching tire on the spare rim. Before I do my first rotation, I will buy a matching spare wheel and have the tire remounted on it so that I can do five tire rotations every 5,000 miles.
