Sneak Peak of the New and Revised Diode Dynamics Elite Headlights

They are finally here!

Last week we received the new and improved @Diode Dynamics Elite Headlights to get installed and tested. But it also happened to be a very busy week with the Labor Day sales and we fell behind on getting this put in so we apologize for that. But! Nonetheless, here they are in all their glory!

Now for those that do not know, we have been testing these headlights for Diode since they announced them a couple years ago. During the initial testing is when we discovered some of the internal bugs that were happening. As most of you know, this led to a VERY long fix and resolve timeline. And we know it hasn't been necessarily fun for anyone of our customers that have been patiently waiting. But we are proud to say that the problems internally have been fixed and resolved and have been working very well for a long time now. And we are proud to say that they are fully functioning, easily adjustable, and are packing a punch with all their glory.

Diode did have to improve some of the other features such as the finish warping on the bezel which is why they made a change from black bezels to the chrome. Now at first, we werent excited about the chrome. But let me tell ya, they are truly a lot better once installed on the truck! its a subtle change that we know some may be hesitant on when you hear about it, but we wanted to get you a nice shot of them on our shop build so you could see them for yourselves!

We have also included the new and upgraded packaging that Diode has done to make sure everything arrives safely. Check out that laser precision cut foam padding!

This goes without saying; but we know this has been a very long time product that many have been waiting for. And we all know it is not something that can be taken away. But what we will say is that Diode really did go the full length to ensure that they fixed the issues with these headlights and put in a ton of time and effort to ensure they are assembled well and shipped safely. Kudos to you @Diode Dynamics

Are either of you able to put together a well-made YouTube video comparing these to the various OEM headlights the 21+ comes with, including measuring output?

Are either of you able to put together a well-made YouTube video comparing these to the various OEM headlights the 21+ comes with, including measuring output?

@Diode Dynamics will certainly have much better and deeper details and supporting specs for those comparisons. We unfortunately do not have the proper equipment to give full output details down to the number.

For what it’s worth though, we do have a media shot of the OEM halogen, OEM LED, and the DD Elites which we have attached here. One thing to keep in mind is the DD headlights were NOT full adjusted fully during the photo. We had just installed a brand new suspension that day and forgot that we needed to re-adjust the lights back down some before taking those photos. So the distance output is not quite that far if properly adjusted. We will have new photos taken here soon as we have some other media we need to get done.

These do not have those features built in, but they work with any oem connectors. Diode does however use extra features on the Elite max model. Such as an outside pod that illuminates with any turning motion to the corresponding side just like the OEM Fog wide cornering feature. But auto leveling is not something these do.

So are these DOT approved? The light scatter and glare from aftermarket LED's is usually quite bad- and extremely annoying and those look like they have a lot of scatter.

I have been impressed with the headlights in my King Ranch......but I can guarantee that if I ever have an insurance claim that requires the replacement of front end pieces, I know who I'm calling.

I meant to order the hitch light.....I need to keep an eye open for the next sale, or just stop by next time I drive through STL.

Probably not. Someone that went through the SAE guidelines for DOT approval will shout it loud and clear. There's one simple test and that's to check the beam cutoff. If it looks like this, they at least tried to take into account the rules

Lights sourced from countries that drive on the other side of the road has this inverted to keep light form dazzling oncoming drivers, but if it's flipped it's doing the opposite. This is one of the reasons I went with in-cab adjustable factory projectors. Plus the glare free rocks illuminating the sides of the road where the deer are conspiring their demise.

Furthermore non DOT approved lighting must be sold as OFFROAD USE ONLY. After watching what they did to those even providing instructions / parts for off road emissions deletes being sold as such, it's just a matter of time before the eye of sauron nails them.

As an engineer (originally aerospace) I know how much a manufacturer spends on R&D for something like LED headlights. I just don't see how a small aftermarket company can even come close to doing it right. I hope they are actually DOT approved but I know that anyone can have DOT molded into the lens. I'd like to see the actual paperwork from DOT before I buy anything like this.
