Around 6 years ago I put aftermarket LED headlights (from US company) in my 2008 F150. A few months later during Virginia state inspection, I was told by the shop that a state trooper observing them for the day said the headlights were illegal and had to be removed. I followed up with the state police and ended up having to remove them. They were marketed as DOT approved but that doesn't mean legal in every state.
