2021 Ford F150 platinimum powerboost
I am in a little bit of disbelief that I am having to post this. My 2021 power boost platinum is in for service for a leak in the transfer case. This will be the 5th time it has gone in for the same problem. The first couple of times were me trying to convince them it was leaking. The 3rd time they replaced the front output seal. The leak was still there. The 4th time they replaced the same seal again. All of this was covered under my CPO extended powertrain warranty. Now they are claiming that the transfer case halves are leaking where they join (I totally disagree with this assessment, but what do I know). However, and this is the kicker, when the service liaison puts in the sealant it comes up as not covered. They then inform me that it’s a sealANT, not a seal and that’s why it’s not covered. The audacity of such a ridiculous semantic argument just boggles my mind. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I am trying to get Ford to back me up, and they have sort of helped, but then….not. Any help is appreciated. This has been a bit of a nightmare and while I love my truck I don’t think I will ever purchase another Ford product.

The guys you’re talking to suck
The sealant is acting as the seal between the two case halves.

You need to send this shit up the chain

If the leak is really in the transfer case, you should just tell them to fix it. You really don't care how they do it or what chemicals they may use. Just fix the leak. Stay away from whether what they use is covered, that's their problem, not yours.

I wish it was that easy. They are telling me because the sealant isn’t covered it means the repair isn’t as well!! I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to have to argue a $10 tube of sealant as a means to justify a $1500 repair bill they are trying to pass off onto me. It would be great if the person I was talking to would say “this is clearly a seal, I am not sure why they would deny that” but no I get:

I would have already gone around this guy and spoke with the service manager myself.

And the comment you will need to deal with your warranty company??? Don’t deal with him anymore.

The other dealerships in my area that I have been to are worse. When I had a problem with my blue cruise not going into hands free mode, the service liaison there said “but that doesn’t mean you can take your hands off the wheel”. Exactly those words. I looked at them thinking they were joking, but no. They were not joking. I replied “it’s called hands free driving, what else do you think that means”. Again. Can’t make this stuff up.

I may need to drive a lot farther to get competent help. Another issue with this dealer is they do a large volume, so they clearly don’t care if I am upset. It used to be an actual threat if a customer said they would never buy a product again, but nowadays that doesn’t seem to cause any stir what so ever.

....... my CPO extended powertrain warranty.
Wishing you the best for resolution under your CPO Powertrain Warranty. ?

FYI for others reading this thread who may have the Ford PremiumCare ESP .... review of my contract indicates there is no exclusion for sealant failure (IOW, IMO, a leak in a case interface using sealant to contain the lubricant should be covered for the years/miles of the PremiumCare contract).

Whether it is a seal or sealant that is needed, it is dishonest for them to attempt assert that since the sealant is covered, the repair isn't covered. You need to start talking about a lawyer. Clearly the repair is covered thus any required items, whether a seal or sealant, is covered. You really don't care what their ancillary items are. It's time to tell them that they're looking at a lawsuit if they don't get off their duff...

Hold up.

"...deal with your warranty company."

Is your warranty through Ford? It's not unheard of for dealerships to cover their CPO vehicles through third party providers. My wife bought a CPO Subaru years ago with one of those and getting them to cover anything was a knock down fight.

here’s the reason why you need to ride it up past the dealership and into Ford. The transfer case split does not have a paper gasket seal as these dickheads are trying to push off on you. The case halves from the factory use sealant as the seal between the case halves.

What you have is an extremely shitty dealer and an even more shitty service advisor. Have you politely spoken with the service manager? How about scheduling awhat you have is an extremely shitty dealer and an even more shitty service advisor. Have you politely spoken with the service manager how about scheduling a meeting with the general manager?

One should never stop with bullshit coming out of these service advisors. Most no absolutely nothing, while the ones at my dealership are rather helpful, they never have been mechanics. One was a bank teller before getting this position at the dealership.

Funny how SEALANT meets the criteria for the Oxford definition of SEAL

I’d tell them to button it up and take it to a different dealer. My question is, if it’s just the halves that are leaking, how is it $1400 to replace the sealant? Or is it in an area that’s not easily accessible?

The only issue you could have with a different dealer is there may be a record of them trying to run this through warranty, and another attempt at it may also be denied. So the only recourse may be to run it up the chain a bit higher.
