That's great man! Thanks so much! When you say clean, were you using a wire wheel to get off the bulk? I'm assuming this protective coaring you just used on the iron components? Did you replace any bolts or nuts? Also, any concerns about this effecting your warranty? I plan to add the Ford ProCare 8/100k plan.

If it's easy, please send pics of the products. I've seen some come in liquid and spray and they each have different results for the same product.

Thanks again! Seeing your results are very promising. Too bad Ford wouldn't do something like this at the time of assembly.
By clean I just meant clean, a sponge and pressure washer or something. You might be surprised but I didn’t need a wire wheel at all. The Rust Dissolver spray did just that after I let it sit for a while, so I was able to scrub it off with a regular brush. I only messed with the axle, so just unpainted iron components. I didn’t replace any hardware, probably cleaned it up the same as the axle and painted it, but I don’t remember it being that bad. I was a bit pissed so I didn’t think much about the warranty but I think they said it would be fine. I’d take a picture of it now but we’ve had snow constantly and it couldn’t look worse under there. When I spray it with the hose in a few days when it warms up it should look new again. Here are the products:

WOW, great results for a low price and as usual, some elbow grease. I'm sure I'll be doing the same at some point in my near future. This forum is always a good one! Thanks again for all the info and details. ?

If I remember right I cleaned it up several hours a day for 2 days, and painted on the third day. It did take a while to get it acceptable to paint but definitely worth it.

Quite a few threads here if you search for "rust" that show what people have done to fix themselves like the above examples.

Dealer says bring it in ffor a few days, setting me up with a rental. Will try and resolve the issue. They agree, this is excessive. When asked if I'm potentially looking at swapping horses, they replied, "if we can't get it resolved, we'll have another conversation". The truck has a rough idle when in gear, maybe I get that resolved as well. Idles great in park, but idle is low and vibration while in gear.

I'll be sure to keep you guys posted. ?

I feel lucky. Here are my last three trucks.

One more, and last one, but this is after a Colorado winter:

Nice work! Your post demonstrates two things:
  1. It is preventable with the correct preparation and application.
  2. It would have been so much easier and less time consuming if those things had been done by Ford during the manufacturing process.
I have the same sway bar and you will need to inspect the ends regularly since paint has chipped off mine there.

They must save a small amount of money not painting them with a robot before assembly, and probably assume people like us that actually care make up like 5% of total sales, so it’s worth it. Good call on the sway bar, when I clean it up I’ll take a look.

I purchased my 2024 XL with 4300 miles on it and saved thousands and when I brought it home the first thing I did was clean the undercarriage, pull it into my heated garage, and spray the rear axle, driveshaft yokes, and front CV joints where Ford failed to apply some basic black paint. I absolutely hate rust especially on my vehicles. Mine however didn't even come close to looking that bad. To be fair though this is the first winter for this truck so it hadn’t experienced a salt spray yet but in New England they salt the roads constantly here and it destroys metal, conrete, and everything else. I painted my drive train components with Rustoleum Rust Reformer temporarily and plan to do a more thorough job in late spring.

My 2014 faired well up until about 5 years ago when it started to show signs of rust on the undercarriage. I have been under that truck treating the rust every year and have kept most of it at bay but I’m slowly los the battle. ?. The good thing about the current generation is the Aluminum bodies seem to be holding up much better to the salt then the steel bodies ever did.

My wife's Kia Telluride is spotless underneath. I cant find a spec of rust which is impressive given this is the third winter with this vehicle, but she constantly washes it and takes it through the car wash regularly.
