I posted this on another board and thought someone here might have insight.

I have the mode set to Out. Why does the running board mode switch to Auto mode every time when starting up? I don't understand Ford's logic with this feature. Why offer three modes if it switches to Auto every time? Is this a known issue and is there a Forscan solution?

Thanks.

because maybe or i am spit balling
OUT is for standing on them to wash or what ever and if you drive they will stow upon a certain speed
so maybe the default is auto to protect the gear

i still want to know why both sides deploy when you open the drivers side only? my last three fords only opend the side

No idea either but did you try saving that setting in your profile?

The OUT setting gets reset when the truck is turned back off and back on. There has been other threads on this topic and that was the consensus.

Personally, I hate this - I hope it is a bug, or enough people complain where Ford changes this.

I want by boards to stay out a majority of the time - but I also want complete control and not some auto reset that doesn't make sense. Boards out also will prevent door dings and I am already tired fo the constant auto in and out as I walk around my vehicle when packing or cleaning it.

@Ford Motor Company - please take note of this. This should be easy "fix" - note, the manual doesn't say anything about the setting being reset the next time. It describes OUT as anyone would think - leave the boards out.

Can't help with the door ding issue (though I don't find that the extended running board will always be first point of contact from other vehicle doors), but, you can change the timeout on the retract to 5 minutes so that it's not going in and out so much when opening doors, or walking around it.

I made the running boards one of my quick access buttons at the bottom of the screen, so that I could hit "out" quickly if I want to leave them extended while parked. Or I just hit the kick switch when I exit to leave them out until I get back. Although as mentioned above, any car/truck close to the same height is just going to go over the running board and hit the truck anyway. The raptor running boards that I put on my 2019 seemed to have really good protection (high and wide).

I also have the "approach detection" off, so that they don't deploy just walking by with the key.

Great idea. I'll give it a try.
