Hey all. Just got into FORScan today and made a bunch of changes to my 23 PB SCrew. Everything went well, which I'm happy about. One thing that is small, but bothersome, is when I put something in the passenger side of the truck and I get back to the driver's side, right as I'm reaching for the door handle, the running boards start retracting. And this happens all the time, so short of running around the truck, is there a setting I can change to slightly increase the time they stay deployed? I saw a running board option, but it was only enable/disable. Honestly, like 5 seconds longer would be ideal. Thanks!

There was setting in the menu that either had the boards retract almost immediately or 5 min delay. This is on my 21 platinum, I have it on the 5 min setting. I can't answer about forscan as I don't use it. Maybe reach out to @rugedraw or one of the other tech guys on the forum.

There is a change for this in the FORScan thread. Livinup helped me with it last month.

This would be a good place to start:

Ford F-150 Change Running Board Deployed Time??? 1729807032662-pm

BCM from 744-42-01 and down seem to be where this is at.

It’s in the manual under “running boards”

Looked into this and it crossed my eyes, so I just changed the SYNC screen running board setting from standard to extended and that should fix my issues. Thank you for the time and info though!

I (now) have 2025 F250 Lariat and the extended timeout (five minutes) was too short for my liking. But, there is a not-very-well documented FORScan setting that lets you change the "extended" timeout value in the DSM Module (Driver's Seat Module) at 744-31-01.

I changed mine to two hours (which saves some unnecessary running board motor activity):

ModuleAddressOrig ValueNew Value
DSM744-31-010719 012C 19E30719 1C20 19F2

Before making any changes I'd suggest making sure the original value of the 2nd word for 744-31-01 in your configuration is 012C (which is 300 decimal, the default extended timeout in seconds). And, (of course) always make a backup of the original settings for each module before making any changes.

The value I used for the 2nd hex word (1C20) is 7,200 in decimal (two hours in seconds). The last octet (E3) is a checksum changed automatically (to F2) by FORScan.

More detail here.

Two hours?!? Let me ask you this, do they go up as soon as you put the truck into gear?

All the two hours does for me is save some additional wear on the running boards (and battery consumption) when I'm working on/around the truck.

The boards will automatically go up when the truck reaches 3 MPH, or when the vehicle is locked, or the two hours of inactivity expires. The other thread I referenced indicates they won't go up if the vehicle does a re-lock (but I'm not sure how to manage that sequence).

Two hours was just the first value I thought I'd try. The maximum value is 65,535 seconds (18.2 hours).

I really wish Ford had provided a way to exclude automatically raising them when the vehicle is locked, since leaving them down in parking lots is a great way to prevent door dings.
