I did finally get around to removing and cleaning the contact points on my RAS, and all the noise is now gone. I've had them off road a few times and so far the dirt hasn't made the noise come back.

When I re-installed mine I went bit tighter, since I have a load in the bad most of the time now. I don't know the exact setting, but the white disc fell right through the spring spaces and now resides inside one of the springs permanently. I think it was pretty close to a mid point between the two discs, but instead of using a disk to make them match I grabbed an old spark plug gap tool to avoid feeding them anymore plastic chips...
Question…do you just remove it RAS by unbolting the bolt on the bracket, do you need to dial the spring back to no tension before removal?

To remove you have to jack up the frame and let the suspension hang. Then loosen the two nut to release the spring tension. I don’t think you could release enough tension with the suspension loaded.

I jack from the hitch to lift both sides at once, but I have a jack for high clearance trucks that will lift far enough. Once jacked, then you can loosen as needed. If you have lost the plastic tension spacing chips like I did, an old spark plug gap tool can be helpful to get both sides to even tension.

I had a squeak come back more recently, and I thought I was going to have to remove and clean again, but upon inspection I found that the front end had shifted so that the side plates were rubbing on the leaf; I used a 2lb sledge to persuade it back into good alignment without having to loosen or remove and it solved the noise issue.

Do you have to release all tension from the spring before to remove bolt at the end of thr U bracket?
