Road salt removal techniques, wash that corrosive crap off!
So here’s some info I hope some will find useful. The gadget I made has been patented, feel free to copy as you will. A patent is nearly useless unless you have a small fortune just to protect it.
About 15 years ago, I started with the idea to figure out a way to rinse/wash the underside of the truck and FJ after the storms to remove the road salts. I had the idea to use some salt water wash chemicals I had laying around from my years in Florida. I had a boat and two wave runners and use a wash called Salt Away to remove the corrosive salts. This stuff chemically neutralizes the corrosive actions of the road salts and prevents rust.
At first, I used a sprinkler on a hose. It didn’t work well in the middle of Kansas, 12* and windy. Hard to control and even harder to keep from getting soaked.
So I made a “j bar” spray wand from PVC. I used it to spray Salt Away to neutralize the road salts. It works extremely well. Only needs a garden hose, no pressure washer needed. Shown is another product, Salt’s Gone, same basic chemical idea, different brand. I have a second solution mixer I use by hand for the exterior, wheels, wheel wells and such.
Hope at least a few of you find some usefulness of this “novel”. Happy New Year…..wash those dirty trucks!
