Dumb question, but are the module updates something that happen automatically via OTA? Or do I have to do these updates manually via FDRS or dealer? If they are pending module updates, then why does my Sync4 say it's up to date?
The truck will always say it's it up to date unless there is an update pending or one that recently installed. Yes, those updates will come via the OTA process, just no way of knowing when.

Most modules are capable of OTA updates but the schedule is so random for when they are sent to trucks no one here sees any sense to it. FDRS can update everything quickly to current versions in a long day but is not the best fit for most people unless severely outdated.

It will always say that there are no updates by design. Really that just means there are no updates currently in OTA queue. You could be very outdated but if nothing is waiting then you are up to date as far as the truck is concerned.

Rugedraw has a great thread on the OTA process in this area of forum.

@rugedraw can you check my VIN again when you have time?

1FTFW1E80PKD17644

I got an OTA earlier in the month which was my first since owning the truck. I’m wondering if I have anything else in the queue?

since the update I’ve noticed that my WiFi in the truck turns it self off every time I stop the engine. It has to be manually turned on every time.

Just wondering if you could check my VIN too. I have not had anything since Novembers 6.1.0 and have been having the low power related issues with my battery lately.

Thanks!

Your OTA history is showing updates are being sent to the truck, but they keep expiring before the OTA trigger activates. Less than 3k miles on the truck tells me you don't drive it much. When the server creates an trigger for an update for a vehicle, it must be started in order for the OTA to progress along the process. Otherwise, the update will time out and expire.

Nothing has been sent to you since then. A low battery can prevent an update from installing, but it won't prevent an update being sent to you. At this point, a new battery would not make a difference in terms of your updates.

I bought the truck a little over a month ago but it sat at the dealer for a year before I purchased it in December. I drive it 3-4 days a week at least since I’ve owned it.

Does it show any expired updates sent since December when I bought it?

Ah, that explains it. Strange, because it says the warranty started in June of 2023, but it explains the timed out updates. Last expired OTA was October, so the only update sent to it since you bought it went through.

Dealer put it into their loaner fleet and it had a couple hundred miles when I bought it so I’m guessing the warranty must have started when they put it into service. Ford gave me an ESP to compensate.

We went in through this little grommet on the passenger side of the firewall.

Did you add that hose/tubing to run your power cable in? My EcoBoost doesn't have that.

Yes, the wire going from the battery is covered in the black casing to make it look more OEM.

@rugedraw A quick look at my VIN would be much appreciated. 2022 F-150 Tremor. VIN# 1FTEW1E83NFA62621. Dealer recently replaced the battery and updated to 6.5. Thank you!

Javier,

I don’t want to impose upon your time unnecessarily. I am looking at purchasing a 2023 King Ranch that the dealership is using as a courtesy vehicle. I was wondering if you could glean any information from the VIN to help me with my purchase decision?

Thank you for your time!

Would appreciate a VIN check if possible:
1FTFW1ED3MFB06312
In December I got a notice that 6.8 was installed...
Then had it in for a lot of warranty work in January. Dealer said they applied all available updates and had the truck a good while.
Last night I noticed the alert icon and it said I had an update ready. When I clicked details it showed 6.8 again, but also had a "completed" icon.
So I'm just curious if everything is done.

Thanks!

These are the updates the dealer did on 1/25. The very next day, you got 6.5.0 via OTA. Prior to that, GWM update 6.2.0 had failed, but the dealer did it. Nothing to be worried about here.

Not an imposition: That's what the forum is here for. The truck seems fine to me as far as what I can see. No relevant error codes are being recorded, last OTA it got was 6.4.0 mid December, so it is almost up to date. I only see two things: Ask them to take it out of fleet mode and note the warranty started in November so you're missing out on a few months of the full warranty. The truck has no open recalls or campaigns.

I can see the dealer updated many modules on 1/17 and 1/22. The notice you got was a phantom notice and you can ignore it; it has happened to a lot of people recently. You have only one update showing for the DSP; everything else is up to date.
