My truck has an open recall for the rear camera freezing issue. Loooking at the service tech instructions for the repair on PTS, it says this...

3. Find the 5 digit SYNC 4 Software Version. Ex: 23270.
4. Check the current APIM software level. Is the version in the vehicle at V2.0.2 SYNC software or
higher?

If ther version is lower, then update the GWM, TCU, and APIM if there is an update showing for them.

I wonder if this would be the easiest route to getting this update done so I can get my OTAs rolling again without paying out of pocket for anything.

Sync 23291 is two version behind the latest. After that is 24127 and the newest is 25094. That GWM may release an APIM update once it is installed. There is no guarantee that you can update all the way up to 25094....it depends on what Ford has released and available for your VIN. In my case, I am on Sync 24127 and I cannot update to the latest version until Ford releases it for me.

My FDRS license expired and I cannot justify paying almost $1,000 for a year long license right now as slow as things are at work. I added a note to my sig saying that I can longer check for pending module updates. I might get another license in the future, but for now, I'm FDRSless.

Hey @rugedraw I recently purchased a 2021 f150 platinum. I found out that I’m not getting OTA updates, I can’t connect to ford pass ( I called CS they said module is in sleep last communication was April 23? ) also I can’t enable automatic updates? Please let me know. I have a buddy who has fdrs we attempted to update the Apim but when we connected usb we got no luck. I’ve heard to leave it on etc. but figured I’d send vin and get input. I took to ford dealer today they said $309 to get it updated….

Don't bother paying a diagnostic fee. Click the link in my signature about 2021 trucks that don't get updates.

Your truck is on Sync 20262 which is one of the bad Sync versions from 2020 known to break the update process. It can be fixed, but you will need FDRS and a lot of patience.

@jfalat was able to provide me with a list of updates but recommended I post on here what to update first as it’s a long list. This truck was owned by an elderly guy before me therefore makes me believe he didn’t activate anything not even ford pass here’s the list he sent me

I followed this the first time I updated everything.

The APIM is going to be a problem and is the first thing that should be updated. FDRS will make a USB update that you insert and then will have to leave the USB in for a few weeks until it decides to take the update. Once the APIM is updated, you will need to update the GWM, TCU, IPC and APIM over and over again until not more updates for those modules pop up.

At that point, you can update the other module. If you want to update the other modules while you wait for the APIM, you can, but it may cause some incompatibility issues because the GWM is very out of date.

Yes I have a usb with the update , I just was impatient and removed it but my buddy still has it so what I’ll probably do according to what I’m reading. I’ll grab the usb from him and wait to see if it updates. Should I wait for the apim to update via usb and then update all other modules? or drop off to him and have him update whatever he can and then take usb with me as well. Sorry guys I just got the truck 2 weeks ago and I knew something was off cause when I unlock it after it sitting over night or after a while I heard a loud pop which is heard is from the same problem… updates

If your friend still has FDRS, have him reformat the USB and make a fresh USB update. Name the USB something short and simple like ford or sync. Perform a master reset on the truck on the settings of the touchscreen and then insert the USB and just leave it there until the USB kicks off. He can update the ACM and DSP to get rid of the loud pop issues. Those are quick. He can do all the updates if he wants, but that won't fix your connectivity, bluecruise (if it has it), and a bunch of other things that are missing or broken.
