If your truck is Bluecruise equipped you can try that approach to get updates too. Not as likely to work on used but anything is possible. There is a TSB to update BC trucks that are stuck behind updates and can't use the feature.
How do I know if I have Blue Cruise? I do have lane keep assist.

It would have been on window sticker.
Bluecruise prep package or something like that in the wording.

Yeah, classic sign of not doing it. You can try the FDRS route yourself but there is some expense involved in it. You get to point of creating a USB stick then leave it in for up to two months. Eventually truck might take the update. Several here have had success doing it. Dealer will just want to replace APIM and if out of warranty that will cost you more than DIY.

If I get the mongoose and all the cables would I still need to wait for the update? I thought with the mongoose i could get it all done over the course of a day.

Deciding if I want to go to the dealer (in warranty) or just get the Mongoose, or ignore it. Can you check my VIN again? Thanks.

When you have auto update disabled and can't turn it on then you most likely have one of the broken sync versions. Your sync version will be 20xxx or blank line. This needs FDRS to get out of it. You create a USB with the files to install using FDRS. Then drive around with that USB always in the truck for a month or two. Eventually you'll get lucky and see on sync screen it is installing the update. Once you are past that point all the other sync updates will install easily in about 10-20 minutes. The other truck updates take longer and even with your sync screen broken you can still install some updates up to a point. You'll be blocked from going further until sync updates. Expect at least two $50 FDRS sessions. One to create the USB you need, and a second after it installs so you can move on with more updates. Post in FDRS thread if you have questions about it. Rugedraw went on vacation so he isn't here to do VIN lookups at moment but someone else might be able to see what is showing up.

Thanks for the clarification. I saw a video using a mongoose and Ethernet adapter thought that was my route. Ford got back to me today and said there is a bms module that is causing the updates to not go through. Spoke to the dealership after and they aren’t buying that, they are waiting on advice from the hotline. I’m thinking about just going the fdrs route and saving myself the dealer headache but I’m going to wait till I hear the vin results.

Try USB with files first. Doing the Ethernet cable is last resort and if it fails you are locked out. If you are working with dealer who knows they might do updates. Whatever you do never say you heard something online. Tell them you saw your friend has full screen Android Auto or Car Play but your truck doesn't so you think you need updates. You'll need to turn that on with your phone of course so you can show them. If they replace APIM you'll start getting updates eventually but FDRS is still better option. If you are out of warranty I would try FDRS DIY.

Pretty much everything on your truck has an update available. No you need to take it to the dealer unless you want to spend ~$800 for 12hrs of updates. Borrow a mongoose from ruged's thread in his sig

Can I expect any OTA updates? Or I'm so far behind the only way is a manual update either at the dealer or with a mongoose?

I noticed the Ford pass app now shows I turned auto updates on which it didn't yesterday, so it seems like it is talking to the servers.

You're better off giving it a head start. The magic 8 ball is the only thing that's able to predict ford's OTA strategy.

There is a chance that it will update on its own, but you will be waiting forever. There have been cases of several trucks that Ford just doesn't like apparently. No one can find reason why they are behind on updates. ?‍♂

FDRS and a long weekend of not needing to go anywhere and you'll get updated.

Am I missing any updates that might correct the 360 camera button's malfunction? I went to the form discussing it, which mostly talked about an update.
