Yea those are low volume fleet colors, Ram does the same thing but you can pick them in the build and price online in their HD trucks for a 500 up charge.
My guess is that’s a fleet fire dept order and they kept one or ordered an extra to modify and gouge a customer with. As far as the 68k price that’s pretty typical to double the price you could do it yourself for, it’s the same with the lift/level and the bro wheels for $15k.
Historically, some manufacturers allowed special order of low volume or even custom colors--but at a price.
I saw a '65 mustang at last year's Mecum auction that claimed to have been special ordered in a barbie-ish pink (not quite the Mary Kay Cadillac color).
And Cadillac had (has?) the "00" paint code in the vin indicating a custom color, which could sometimes even be a unique mix.
So, I went to the main dealership that has this truck this morning to pick up some parts (Aero delete) and asked a salesman about the truck. I said it's not on this lot, but your truck lot and I'm not interested, but how is this truck red? I then showed him the internet listing of the truck from their website. He responded "You can't get red. We must have wrapped it." I said the window sticker reads Vermillion Red from the factory. He said he didn't know because you can't get red.
So, I drove over to the truck location, parked and walked inside. Guy asks me if he can help me. I said, I'm not interested in buying the truck, but how is that RCSB red ? He said "It's a secret" and we awkwardly stared at each other. Eventually he said it was an add on they put onto a fleet order. He asked if I would like a different color truck and I said no, I just wanted to know how they did it.
At that point, another salesman tried to sell me a Whipple and I said I wasn't interested and left. So, to those of you who said fleet order, you're 100% right. Thank you.
