Recirculation won’t stay on - keeps turning randomly off!

I basically have a work around for this.
22 PB Platinum. I live in north texas [fort worth] and recirc is a must in all seasons.

-Manually set temperature to [LO].
-Control fan speed as desired.
-Manually set HVAC vents to floor and dash.
-Recirc on
-AC on

I find this stays set even after turning the truck on and off. I commute an hour each way and i dont have to mess with the HVAC.
No switches, no drilling, no forscan.

So, you leave the temp on "LO" all the time? I know it's Texas but you guys get ice and snow occasionally (or so it says on the news).

Texas does get ice and snow.
But it's a little misleading.

When you enter Texas from the Louisiana border, it says

Admittedly that's East/West

But the weather varies from the tropics (Coastal) , the Big Thicket (Jungle), the desert (West Texas), and the frigid North (Panhandle)

I tried just about everything in forscan for the HVAC, including disabling the humidity sensor and also physically unplugging it. It doesn't matter. Even when the humidity sensor is not controlling the recirc (colder ambient temp), it will time out in exactly 5 min in my truck. So, the recirc will turn off no matter what you do to that sensor.

With that being said, with "enhanced anti-fogging strategy" and "cabin air refresh" disabled, my truck will stay in recirc pretty much all the time when it is hot outside (March to December in S.C.). I put my bypass switch in basically when I want recirculated air when the outside temp is colder than the inside (the truck defaults to fresh air when it's colder outside, hence the 5 min recirc timer).

Also, even when your recirculation light is on, and you are in "auto", you can be in partially recirc (or partially fresh air); so some odors may come inside, even though you "think" the inlet door is closed.

After the enhanced anti-fogging strategy forscan edit failed I reverted mine back. As long as the set temp is lower than outside it will stay on recirculate. Otherwise it flips to fresh air at any point it feels like. At least down in Houston the cool mornings are all but done. Down side is I'll likely forget about it until next fall and piss me off all over again...

Guess I need to look into doing the bypass switch mod while it's still pleasant outside.

Oh I know it and spent many hours of my childhood riding in the back seat across Texas. I have seen the sign you posted!

Clearly you can adjust as wanted but its spring and thats where I have it set now.

Checking back in after a month or two with the bypass switch.
There's definitely still some amount of intrusion of outside smells into the cab, and there's an AC mildew-y smell that I may have cause by doing this, which I (mostly successfully) clear out by running fresh air with the AC and full hot for a few minutes when that happens (fortnightly?). However, otherwise very very happy to be more in control of the recirc when I want it, and it seems to protect me from the otherwise overwhelming smell of the water treatment plant when passing it, so maybe 80-90% isolation from transient outside air? TLDR: good mod. Nominate @Zyvin for member of the year.

Sorry to hear about the issues Scuba. I haven't had any issues at all, but my truck stays in the garage more than it is out on the road. Maybe a few tips. Try turning off the bypass and allow the recirc door to go wherever it wants before you park for the night, or if sitting Just thinking maybe that humid air is being trapped, and can't escape while sitting (just a guess). Also when you hit recirc in any other mode than max A/C, it can still be partially open. Maybe hit max A/C, then hit the bypass to ensure it's fully closed for driving by the water treatment plant, lol. Not sure if any of that will help, but worth a shot. Granted, there are other areas in which air can penetrate the cabin.

There seems to be two modes. The first one is the light turns off and you can smell outside death coming in. This occurs mostly when it is cooler outside. The second one is the light stays on, but the temp/flow changes and resetting the recirc button stops whatever it is trying to do and this occurs mostly when on long highway roadtrips. Either way, I'm constantly taking my eyes of the road for this obnoxious behavior.

Eternal Whack-A-Mole isnt something I enjoy. Im glad to declare that after months of suffering from Ford forcing stinky cancer fumes into my cabin, I sold my F150 and got a Tahoe. Lets see if it has the same issue.

Would be very interested in your Tahoe experience. I was coming from a Tahoe ('13), and the inability to 100% recirc was part of the excuse to trade it for the F150. FWIW, my "fix" detailed above (copied from somebody else) has been working pretty well. Still some intrusion (it's not a space ship), but seems to not be from the fresh air intake.

It is a 2022 Tahoe, so they may have changed that system.
I just got it, so after the next month, I will report back if the air recirc will auto disable.

On my F-150 Lariat, air recirc used to constantly disable itself only if the outside temperature is under around 16 C (60 F).

Recirc will turn off when you have defrost on. It only works on front and floor vents.
