As we were driving from RVA to JAX today, it started off in the 40s F. Same issue, recirculation would only stay on for 5mins. Once we made it into the Carolinas, the outside temp raised to the 60s F. At this point, the recirculation light stayed on and never turned off. It seems it is related to outside temps being "cold" even though we had the AC on too. However, as we made it into GA and it was in the 70s, even though the recirculation light stayed on, we could feel it turning it off and on automatically even though the light never went off. So it appears there are two behaviors for it.
I EXPERIENCED THIS SAME THING THIS WEEKEND, WE DROVE 3 HOURS FROM THE NC MOUNTAINS TO THE UPSTATE IN SC AND NOTICED THAT THE AIR FLOW WOULD CHANGE AND IT WAS OBVISOULY "FRESH AIR" BUT THE RECIRC BUTTON WAS STILL ON. I AGREE WITH THE OUT SIDE TEMP THING AS WELL, MY WIFE HAS A 2021 FORD EXPEDITION AND IT SEEMS TO BE DOING THE SAME THING. IT MUST BE A FORD SETTING AND ITS VERY ANNOYING.

There is a humidity sensor in the overhead console, when it reaches a certain level it turns off the recirc.

My Volvo does it with timing. Like 20 min on, 5 min off, then on again; but I can manually override it with the button.

As far as I know; there's no humidity sensor, the overhead console houses the hands free phone microphones.

The recirculate turns off randomly regardless of the humidity when the AC is off. It is a feature Ford thinks is important because they have been doing this nonsense for decades. My '01 Navigator has the same problem.

It is my most hated thing about my truck!

Nothing is worse than driving on the highway and some vehicle with nasty exhaust or a local papermill mill with a smell almost worse than death and the truck decides to turn off recirculate at that moment and you're inundated with hell inside the cabin. Like seriously, what the actual yuck. Come on @Ford Motor Company, you can do better.

Good morning, new here with my F150 powerboost but I have been in my truck today going on four hours and 11 minutes over 240 miles so far and the second leg of my trip returning from checking a job site with my crew my AC has done this about 20 times now lol. Temperature set at 68 and every time it kicks off it’s like the fan speed has jumped up to medium very annoying but also glad to see I’m not the only one!

Here is what I find funny. Today in Houston the high was 65 and sunny. For me, that’s perfect weather to roll down your windows, turn off your A/C off, and jam to some good tunes.

But guess what?! You can’t turn the damn A/C off! There is no off button. Unless I’m missing it.

So much for being designed for efficiency.

Take it off Auto by adjusting the fan speed.

I'll say it again, it's designed that way and is SUPPOSED to do that.

I agree it's annoying and I don't like it either.
I had asked about this and was told that there is a humidity sensor in the air ducts and that is what turns the recirc on and off to stop the windows from fogging up.

There can't be a hygrometer that's controlling recirculate, I live in the fucking desert and and it turned itself off five times in the 12 mile drive back from my mother's house last week. I knew instantly every time because of: tar from roadway repaving and diesel fumes from idling service vehicles, someone smoking while walking their dog, dead animal, and the multiple assholes with wood burning fireplaces using them on 'no-burn' days when we have temperature inversions where fireplace smoke makes a u-turn out of the chimney and hugs the ground.

I'm sticking a sock in the fresh air inlet! Sick of this bullshit.

To turn off completely, I just press in the driver's temp control know, seems to turn everything off.

Ummmmmmmm.

1. There is a humidity sensor

2. It doesn’t care what the humidity is outside the truck

3. Since max a/c forces recirc to “on”, will keeping max a/c on keep recirc on indefinitely? (I.e. turn on max a/c and turn fan to low or comfortable rate)
