Can we even trust the recalled letters software version? It looks like Fords lawyer threw out some rando to make them compliant and said we’ll figure it out!!!

I wonder if the TRM update popped up in FDRS the other day is the same one as the new OTA update for it. Mine is went from BA to BB.

Had mine done 5/11 as I had it in for scheduled maintenance. As stated earlier I had it done to keep the ball in Fords court. Picked up trailer from storage 5/15 with no problems. Only about 60mi. Have no way to tell what version and dealer couldn’t tell me.

For some reason, it just may not be documented or the NHTSA documents are either incorrect or not updated, but a specific OTA to address this recall pushing out the BB version tells me that this version does address the trailer brake problem. I wish we could get more info on this, but we may just need to trust Ford on this one.

Sounds reasonable. All we can do now is sit back and wait for reports by those pulling a trailer with the BB module firmware. When those brakes stop working with a heavy trailer it is immediately apparent on the next attempt to stop. This is not a subtle failure in the right circumstance.

I was one of the earlier people to get the recall ("BB" version). We then towed 2500 miles with no issue. We were squeezing the trailer brakes a few times an hour to test them. Unless I hear from Ford/dealer (or lose brakes again) I'm using the vehicle with the assumption that I have the correct software version. I have complete ignorance of all the previous discussion about which version is correct and why, and am not suggesting anyone base their decision to use the truck on my individual experience.

BB may be the answer and the recall notice was wrong saying DH was the fix. In my case the trailer brake failure would happen within the first few miles of towing. It would always work on first start then go away. Thanks for the report.

I believe this to be true but only time will tell. Another tow coming up shortly, will report results.
Or it is possible for thought DH was the fix then found out after the recall it was not, then issued BB. Look forward to your reports.

My truck was a 2021 Job 2 that came with DH - drove off the lot 4.5 months before the recall. I suppose Ford could have been *hoping* the issue didn’t carry through in DH, but it seems unlikely that this was programmed to resolve the issue.

Has anyone in Canada received the OTA update yet? I have daily auto-updates scheduled overnight, and connected to home WIFI - but haven’t gotten this one yet. I did receive the 2.3 OTA update back in Feb, so that’s not an issue (it seems like some others were having trouble on that front based on the forum).

Here is your TRM module information. Your software (BB) is a slightly higher revision than mine (BA) but I'm pretty sure it's functionally the same software also released in February. The only difference as far as I know is that it's for '22s and late production '21s that had a slightly different hardware revision.

You need to download the file using the download file button. I then change the extension from .ab to .xml. My browsers will open the file. The information is at the bottom of the file.

Had the recall “completed” today. Talked to the service advisor, they have no idea that Ford has had issues with this particular recall. The service advisor has been master certified since 2006 so he’d been with ford for a hot minute. Anywho, I did all I could. I have to tow my travel trailer this weekend. Will take it easy regardless. I do have a point of reference because I towed the trailer before receiving the recall letter and experienced the issues with trailer brake controller as others had mentioned here but it was a short trip on mostly flat roads
