I've had Truxedo on 2 F150's (2005,2013) and a Ram Dually with 8ft bed (2022) and for the price and ease of installation can't be beat....

Search on FB marketplace and find a gently used Undercover Ultra Flex or Bak MX4. I picked up a 3 month old MX4 and Weathertech liner today for $700. Had to drive about 90 miles away but I paid less than half of what I would have paid if I had ordered new. They are out there….just be patient.

I put a retractable from Syneticusa on my 23 PB Platinum and love it! Slides easily and keeps everything dry.

2 years ago I paid 695 plus tax for a Rugged brand hard folder that has held up perfectly and kept the bed dry in the worst rains. It is a one piece unit without separate rails or drain tubes.

You have to pay over 1k for more convenience and trick features but you can get something that does the job and holds up well for well under 1k.

I love my Syneticusa tonneau! I am not a fan of drain tubes but all the slide versions have them so….. I will figure out a slick solution so they don’t look janky and impede use of space. Otherwise, it is just as advertised: slides great, waterproof as can be without a contained tailgate, can stop anywhere along the slide and be secured, doesn’t require opening the tailgate (key for me when we tow) and locks separately from the tailgate. All of those were requirements for me and I had a budget that limited some of the more expensive options (double in most cases).

I used to install Rough Country on my work trucks. Always hard tri-folds. On my 2019 f150 I installed a rough country hard trifold that sat on top. I don't think they make it anymore. I cannot find it. I had no issues with their covers even on my work trucks. I had less issues with $600 Rough Country tonneau covers then the expensive name brand. My first couple Ford covers were fantastic. I shelled out $1,200 for an mx4. Just to find out it's a real truck version. Absolute garbage. I went to do a warranty claim and they gave me half my money back. Now granted I bought it through American truck. The fact they threw money at me to shut me up says a lot. More doesn't always mean better. I would be running rough country right now if they were in stock when I needed it.

I’ve been looking at covers too and wondering what the difference is between the Tri-fold hard covers and price? I’m seeing anywhere from $600-$1500. What will a $1500 hard cover have that a $600 one doesn’t?

As others have mentioned, Realtruck bought TruckHero, so they now own Bakflip, Extang, Undercover, Gator and Retrax. There are minor differences (Extang's top of the line uses a knob to release the cover instead of pulling the cable; Undercover puts felt carpeting on the inside; etc...) but most are essentially the same. There are two styles - one has the 3 (or 4) panels that fold over flat onto each other. Advantage - you can always see out the back window. Disadvantage - if you want to use more than 2/3 of the bed you will need to remove the cover. The other style has a short panel at the front and is designed with prop rods so you can lean the cover against the back of the cab and use more of the bed. Downside is you can't see out the back window if you have it propped up.

I've had Bakflips, Undercovers, and right now an Extang Endure on my trucks. All install the same and all do the job. All also are mostly watertight but all will leak around the tailgate if you go through a car wash. Consider adding the weatherstrip around the tailgate to keep the water out.

I want to follow up and share my recent experience with @syneticusa MR retractable Pro Tonneau. Mine had been in place for about 5mo and I noticed some water intrusion near the tailgate where the slats seem to sit lower than the seal (leaving a gap for water). I emailed the company and received feedback the next morning. They immediately noticed the issue from the images I sent and told me how to correct the issue. They could tell the rails must had slid out a bit and needed to be readjusted. The nuts had loosened a bit that led to the subtle shift. They sent the dimensions for distance with images and a video to help me understand how to make it right.and I quickly fixed the issue. I was shocked by the customer service. I would not hesitate to recommend the product and the company!

I bought a Worksport AL3 for just about $700. It keeps the rain/snow off my tools, not perfectly but well. It works with my Backrack and is easy enough to remove and reinstall in about 5 minutes if you want access to the full bed. I like the look, which is fairly low profile.

Not really good quality I just received mine the other day, very disappointed in the flimsy panels, the last panel does not flip, which I could live with and I knew going in. The middle section is not secure when closed, you can lift up about an inch and a half when the cover is closed and peer inside the bed to see what is inside with your hands not even a tool needed. My wife's truck has a BAkflip MX4, I decided to go with a different brand as Real truck bought them out and I heard the new ones are not as good before the buyout. I really miss the quality and fit of that old BAKflip MX4, Bottom line is this AL3 is lacking in all areas over the BAKflip with the exception of water resistance, which I think the AL3 actually is better than the MX4. It keeps more water out even spraying water into the top of the tailgate where the tonneau meets the tailgate, it seems to be better in that area. That said unless spraying water with force against the tailgate/ BAKflip convergence I never hardly had any water go into the truck bed at all even in really heavy torrential rain downpours. Bottom line pass on the Worksport AL3 is my opinion.

They sell a latch kit for the middle panel. Also did you get the updated alignment clips?

Yea when I called in today they recommended I see how I like the new clips first before dropping the $$ on the latch kit. He (Chris) said the new clips lock the middle panel down much better. My cover is supposed to arrive Thursday so we shall see. I ordered the AL3 knowing it doesn't fold up like the AL4, but with it being on sale and adding my military discount it was very affordable.
