I have a hollow knock / clunk coming from the rear of my 2022 Tremor 3.5. This can be heard and felt when starting from a stop and sometimes when coming to a stop. Sound for sure is coming from the rear section. Dealer couldn’t find anything, waiting for an apt later this week with their drive / suspension tech. Any experiences here on the forum with this one?

Hi there. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this for you.

Could have sworn I just saw a vid where someone's slip yoke was jamming and causing the clunk, and it was on a Tremor, too. The thread mentioned it was an easy fix. You should be able to see it stuttering on video if you put the cam on your trans output.

Yes, I did that as well. Was having trouble uploading yesterday. The yoke seems to slide easily? From a sound perspective it definitely seems localized towards the rear. I’ll look for the thread you mentioned…

Hey guys!

Closing the loop on this one. After a few trips to the dealer and a visit from a ford field engineer with chassis mic, brake stands and an alignment rack etc. it’s was determined that the rear drive shaft needed more lube on the splines than what came from the factory along with the front drive shaft needing to be replaced. Both were contributing to the clunk. Just got the truck back and she’s butter smooth. No clunk or feel of a clunk whatsoever.

Yes! They were good despite the time it took to get sorted out. They stuck with it even when the cause and fix were not obvious. My service guy had said that a different engineer had already reached out asking if they had found a fix, I guess he saw the case in their system and had a Tremor with the same issue.

I have a 2023 XLT 3.5 4x4 with 32,000 miles and had the exact same problem. Took it to FORD and they ended up just lubricating the splines. The clunking noise is gone for now.

This is just standard solid rear-axle behavior. Sometimes they just need lube. Every truck I've ever owned has had this issue to a degree. my 2021 is a lot better about it than my 2012 sierra was. I saw people doing stuff like putting springs in the slip-yoke, or using leaf-spring shackles to try to minimize it on the GM trucks.

I think in any truck I've owned, the situation that did it the worst was braking and then getting back on the gas, like when you're slowing down for a red light that turns green, or slowing down to turn out onto a road without completely stopping etc.

I was gonna suggest that. Had a problem with a few Toyotas about 20 years ago with this exact same exact thing same sound same situations the fix was grease the splines

This issue did come back within 7000-8000 miles. Dealer then replaced the rear drive shaft. Things have been good since. I've also since added airlift 5000 bags, which I feel could be helping limit squat / wrap even with the minimum of 5psi when driving unloaded.

Just to give you guys an updated, I ended up taking the truck 3x times to Ford to have if fixed. They lubricated the splines the first 2 times, but this last time they did the same repair as the one done for 2THXTRM
