I'm looking at RV surge protectors and curious to know if anyone has experience using one alongside the Pro Power system.

I'm interested in a hard-wired unit vs the typical unit that plugs into the pedestal and hangs. I'm thinking permanently installing in the trailer is one less piece of gear floating about.

Certainly not needed to use with the Pro Power, but if it's wired inside the camper then there won't be a way to easily bypass when switching between Pro Power and shore power.

My primary concern is that the safety checks of the surge protector will fight the safety checks of the Pro Power and one of the units will shut down. Has anyone tried something similar with their rig?

i have a hardwired surgeguard unit in my bus
it is very sensitive to floating grounds or grounding issues.
if i run an external generator it will refuse to accept power.
bonding the neutral (GOOGLE IT) fixed it
and i also had to use the generators ground to connect the bus ground to stop the error messages
not sure how the powerboost is set up?
we use the emergency portable when the bus is in the hangar and we loose power. other wise we have to move it outside. this way we only move the small genny outside for a short periods
maybe it helps

I have the 50A (4 pin) version of the Hughes Autoformers Power WatchDog and it works fine with the PowerBoost. As you said you probably don't really need it with PB, but my version has the bluetooth connection, and I like to look at the Volt/Amps and Power readings under load (the PB only gives you the Power reading).

Anyway, works fine, no problems or interactions with the PB.

Thanks!
The Hughes and progressive were two of the three I was considering.
Great to know others have had success!

Hmm, interesting.

Initially, our Champion Dual Fuel genny did not work with our Progressive Industries external EMS-PT30X. Had to put a Neutral-Ground Bonding Plug into one of the generators outlets and then plug the trailer into the other outlet.

Once we bought the new truck I sold the generator. I don't think I ever tried the EMS-PT30X with PPoB - just assumed the combination would trip each other up as with the generator. We kept the external EMS-PT30X and use it on the occasions when we are at an RV park and connecting to shore power. Otherwise, we go without when connected to PPoB.

Over the next couple of weeks I'll find the time go to the storage lot and actually try the EMS-PT30X with PPoB. If it works I'll report back here, and add replacing the EMS-PT30X with an internal unit to our trailer to-do list.

Thanks for the input.

I had an electrician wire a 30 amp RV outlet but he wired it 240V instead of 120V. Fried my microwave and my converter. Wasn't going to have that happen again so I purchased this Hughes RV surge protector. Plugged it in (after the outlet was changed to 120V) and instantly got an error code. The neutral was reversed. Switched the hot and neutral and was good to go.
