The PB has two 12 Volt batteries.

The typical one under the hood, and a smaller one under the rear seat.

So, trying to reset/reboot a PB may be more difficult than just disconnecting the under-hood battery.

Noticed something yesterday, don't know of it was happenstance. Experienced a noticeable clunk in upshift from 1-3. Wondering if there is any relation between the learning tables and transmission modes. Meaning, I wonder if there are separate learning tables for each drive mode. Reasoning below.

I've been diligent the past few months to drive in Eco mode/2H to spare on gas, with occasional switches to sport mode for fun moments.

At the time the clunk happened, I had just started to drive, forgotten to change to eco, and the truck was in normal/4A. Feel like maybe the ECU was expecting the load of 2H and did not shift optimally because it's spent time learning in 2H instead of 4A(?). Side note, my shifts have always been exceptionally rough in sport/4A mode but I've grown used to it given the purpose of the mode.

Just hypothesizing here. Anyone know if the software considers transmission modes in its shift points and learned behaviors? Not an expert here but, I imagine shift points would need to be different between 2- and 4-wheel drive modes given differences of load on the engine.

Not sure how the software is worked out, but most guys on here, myself included, feel the shifting in Eco mode is significantly smoother than in Normal.

^^^ 100%. Posted same about the night and day difference in Eco I found. Shifting almost imperceptible at times, everything seems a little slower in Eco…aka Chill mode.

And happy to add with a bit more learning standard mode has improved.

I actually dread updates at times because just when my transmission starts to to come not noticeable I get and update and then I can feel that low shifting again..

That said the last two updates to turn on trailers assist with stickers and allowing use of the rear cameras while driving was very welcomed!

I just picked up my 22 PB last week and noticed this rough shifting myself. Going to bring it up to my dealer. Very dissatisfied.

If you haven’t already put on a number of stop and go miles, you might want to wait a bit. I noticed a considerable difference after about 300 city miles.
I was initially dismissive of the ‘learning’ thing doing much, but there is something to it.
Its not as buttery smooth as some I’ve driven. But subjectively it’s 70%-80% better and hope with more miles it may be right there.

He probably means he erased his adaptive tables, effectively "resetting" it to brand new with no adaptive values. It's like starting over from day 1.
I need to do this. Mine is used (10k miles) and has had several people test driving it before I bought it. I don't know how the original owner drove it, and I'm sure the test drivers romped on it.

You can clear those values pretty easily with Forscan.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of driving would populate the tables with the best values for what you desire. What I mean by that is I'm not convinced driving exactly how you normally do would populate the table with the values that give the best transmission shifting.

I intentionally drove the truck in Sport Mode after clearing the tables. Not because I intend to drive "sporty", but because I personally think Sport Mode shifts better and isn't so mushy. I also want the transmission to use 2nd gear during the so-called learning period. (I don't think it's the most accurate term for the process)

Anyways, after a 100 miles (2-3 days of commuting) I returned to using the truck the way I normally would. Could be anecdotal, of course, but it's the best 10r80 of the 3 trucks I have had with this transmission. Untuned, that is. :)

Pays 18 minutes of labor... no wonder nobody wants to get into automotive, at least with dealers.

That wouldn't be horrible if you were allowed to perform the task in the parking lot, like a drive-through.

But 18 minutes isn't enough to go fetch the truck and carefully park it in the service bay. I get your point for sure.

As customers we often give dealerships grief for their 30 minute or 1 hour minimum for tasks that we know take less time. Like enabling a trailer brake controller in IDS or FRDS. But if we were doing this for a living, we'd see things through a very different lens.

Nothing is REALLY an 18 minute job. :)

I'll now be accused of being a schill for Ford dealerships. Lol

SHILL !!!

Didn’t want you to be disappointed ;p

Great point on perspective. In general this kind of thing helps make a case for investing in FDRS’s hardware controller and occasional use license if not a fan of business needs to cover overhead while turning a profit.

The upfront cost of a $40 item may be a tough sell, but amortized over the lifetime of the truck and the satisfaction of not having to burn time or deal with the uncertainties in the dealer service experience are about to sell me.

Thanks. I now know that I can count on you. :)

One thing I WILL openly schill for is FDRS licensing if you have one of these amazing new F150's. The learning curve is remarkably flat considering what it is worth regarding what you describe brilliantly as the uncertainties in the dealer service experience

This forum has post after post supporting this claim. I think of the Mongoose as a tool worthy of getting a spot in one of the drawers in the toolbox. The cost of a 2-day license, on occasion, is less than that 30 minute minimum the dealership requires.

The satisfaction of avoiding the dealership altogether is priceless.

Honestly I’m sold! Had in in the cart more than once. It’s getting the logical side to deal with the $600 cost of the $40 hardware bit. It seems to keep closing the page. I’m good on the software side.
Funny thing is I know it makes far more practical sense than the $450 it easily bought into just to get the backlit HVAC temp dials (which now needs this to program and clear DTC).
I think it’s objecting to what looks like a bit of price fixing on the mongoose. Gotta get over it.

I had the harshness and the clunking when going from electric to gas and the dealer did the transmission tsb and its smooth as can be now. almost feels like a new truck. i had been riding around with the clunkiness for 10k miles so i had kinda got used to it. So anyone having this issue go to the dealer immediately.
