Anyone have considerations for storing a Powerboost long term? I usually store vehicles for up to a year but not sure if this is any different for prep. Usually just disconnect the battery and fill the tank. Any thoughts?

I know from looking just now Toyota has long-term hybrid storage guidelines they at least send out to dealers. I couldn’t find a copy. I’m wondering if Ford has a similar document.

Check the Owner Manual, they have a whole section in there describing the best way to store your Powerboost, including long term!

Toyota has always recommended not storing long term on hybrid vehicle. Many videos on this. I would imagine it's the same with ford. A charger would only charge 12volt battery not the main drive battery. Maybe ford has another way of long term storage.

If the PB is like Ford's other hybrids, a dead hybrid battery pack is a dead car. The hybrid battery is used for starting, not the 12v. Not sure how to handle long term storage.

Depending on how long "long term" might be and if it is stored in a ventilated or outdoor area, you could schedule remote starts once a month... I'd imagine with a full tank that could go on for a long time.

I read somewhere on here that you can only remotely start the truck 2 times before you have to actually start it. I would be interested to know if that is so or not myself as I travel quite a lot.

I'll need to look closer at this but if this can't be parked in a garage storage unit for a year without potential problems when I get back I will have to sell it.

One of my neighbors was stationed overseas for over 9+ mos and stored his tacoma at some place that would regularly start it and move it a couple miles to get the things lubed and rotated. Maybe something like that would work or I'd suggest that you're better off selling than trying to store for a year.

That's what I was getting at. What will the long term storage do to the main drive battery.

Yeah, I could try that or ask a buddy to start it periodically. But I'd prefer not to ask anyone to do anything just to keep it (and the payment) so I have something when I get back. It hasn't been a great truck which will factor in as well. Rental car pricing and the unstable new and used vehicle market are both reasons why I was thinking about keeping it. I still have a few months to plan.

I have a similar dilemma. My truck is not here yet (supposedly being shipped by rail as I write this - fingers crossed), but when I get it, it will be replacing a 2012 Tundra that I have to park for at least 3 weeks and as long as 7 weeks.

Ford recommends disconnecting the 12V battery if parking it for longer than 3 weeks. They also recommend storing it with the lithium battery at 50% charge. I have no idea how you could controll the charge of the lithium battery - as far as I know this truck does not have the same controls as a Tesla where that is something you can actively manage.

So, I see my options for longer term parking as follows:
1. Just park it and don't worry. Keep a jump-starter just in case and hope that the 12v and lithium battery can work out their differences.

2. Disconnect the 12V when parking it and reprogram everything each time.

3. Park it and remote start it and stop it at least once during the 3-7 weeks.

4. Attach one of those little solar trickle chargers (I don't have access to an outlet where I park) to the 12V system

What would you do?
