My state has updated the codes and a Tesla battery bank can not be installed inside the building envelope. For the same cost I installed a 16wW fossil gas powered standby generator and it will run for days during an outage unlike a power wall.

ICE vehicles will catch fire as well and burn down a building if parked inside. More than half the call-outs made by the local fire substation where I live are to put out vehicle fires on the freeway.

I honestly cannot think of any time in the last 35 years that I have heard of an internal combustion engine vehicle catching fire while sitting in a garage. They have always been some kind of mechanical breakdown or contacting a road hazard or a crash.

hammaman has covered it well, as usual. a few comments,

clean water isn’t really a significant fire issue for an EV, particularly for short events. Boat ramps, as an example. Salt water is a big big deal.

those that don’t understand EV’s and related, and there proper operation, shouldn’t own them. eliminate same, and those that speak with too little knowledge, and the EV world would be pretty stable.

home battery banks as common place are coming. it will be some years yet, but they are a foregone conclusion. Think duck curve management. most likely via V2x, but coming.

regulations passed forbidding same? hey, some folks still believe in coal as a viable energy source..
