After 4.2.2 WiFi services on Sync4 are being toggle off on restart. Now requires going into "Connectivity" setting and toggling on WiFi on each start.

That obviously sucks. No one has reported anything like that with that update. Lmk what they say.

I think it was reported that Steve's update didn't install properly and messed things up pretty good.
If my understanding is correct, only a portion of the update files installed, so there's a now a file version mismatch in the module.

Hopefully that's a very rare occurrence with this OTA. Certainly seems so at this point.

My stereo went unresponsive during the update. Had the loud static pop that plagues the B&O sound system.

4.2.2 is an APIM update.
I can see how the stereo would be completely unresponsive during the install of the update to Sync4?

Yea, I just looked at his OTA dashboard and it seems it tried to roll back towards the end of the update process before the update failed. I have checked countless trucks and I have never seen that before. Very strange indeed.

That's happened to me twice. Nearly soiled myself both times.

yeah, it feels similar to my 1.7.4 failure. if she is just gunna keep bricking herself with some of these apim pushes, having it documented with ford might not be such a bad thing...? we'll see if they want to replace it, and if replacing it fixes/harms anything. i know thats a dealership rule of law; it can't go out with fewer problems than it came in with.

A 6GB, multiple-file update delivered over a 4G AT&T cellphone modem. What could possibly go wrong?

The Ford OTA system has definitely gotten a lot better over the last year or so. But I still don’t trust it. I’m not sure Ford completely trusts it, either. Thus SSMs like this one:

SSM 51310 2021-2022 F-150 - Center Display Screen Button Overlap After An OTA
Some 2021-2022 F150 vehicles may experience buttons or screens overlapping in the center display screen after an accessory protocol interface module (APIM) over the air (OTA) update. This may be due to an incomplete or partial OTA download. The APIM software update that addresses this concern may have been sent via Ford Power-Up software updates delivered OTA to connected vehicles that have automatic updates enabled through the center display screen. It is recommended that customers that have experienced this concern verify automatic updates are enabled and that the vehicle has been run long enough to receive updates via OTA. If the problem still persists after the vehicle has been run, use the Report a Vehicle Concern link at the bottom of the OASIS report and fill out the form.

^on my carplay, the two phones were overlapping, and partially cut off. i shoulda taken pics of it all. but imagine in the screen where you can select between two phones, both the phones lines overlapped, and were half tucked up under the header at the top.

His OTA dashboard shows the update tried to roll back before it failed. I have never seen that before in the countless trucks I have checked.

@"Steve" I blurred out your VIN in the screen shot posted.

When you put it like that, it really is an amazing endeavor to attempt such a thing on 1 MILLION vehicles!

The IT side of me thinks that the OTA work flow should be A. a notification in Sync of what's currently available.
(think pc or smartphone "check for updates")

B. The truck owner decides if/when to "download", which would mean they could do so with both time and bandwidth circumstances that are appropriate.

C. The download package destination could be TO the USB hub, thus accommodating independent external storage of the files, just in case of any install failure or interruption. A second attempt would be easily initiated if necessary.

I know I know.... If wishes were

Amazing or foolhardy and ill-advised? I’m not sure which way this cuts.

I would add to this list some kind of manual mechanism to verify the integrity and completeness of a downloaded update before installation is attempted.
