My running boards motors will continue to run for like 5 seconds after they are already down. It only happens when they go down and It only happens when the truck is on and running. When it’s off they work like normal.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

By any chance did you update the DSM? This happened to me when I updated it via FDRS, the new update has new address and I think ford didn’t optimize, my solution was to replace the DSM and just initialize but didn’t update it

Run a self test in Forscan on the DSM. It will recalibrate the PRB.

I did the self test as well but it didn’t seem to work in my case. Same thing, updated DSM and the motor continues to “run” . Doesn’t happen all the time though. Maybe I’ll try the self test again . Kind of glad I’m not the only one but after having the passenger side motor replaced kind of annoying it’s acting up like this again

I must have done that like 100 times, and all the pinpoint test only thing that fixed it was new module with “outdated firmware “ there were some changes to the Asbuilt with the new firmware

Oh an another thing is that it only has the problem with the ignition on or the truck running, once you turn off the truck the PRB work correctly.

Yeah, I ran the test via forscan and couldn’t get it to go away. I did update the module via FDRS. Also only when the truck is on and running, so sounds like the same problem.
I came across a procedure to try in FDRS but I’ll have to see if I can find it again and get another license to try it out.
What’s involved replacing the module?
Wondering if there is anyway to change anything in forscan to fix?
Isn’t really a serious problem but I’m afraid it’s going to mess up the motors or something.

The module is under the driver seat. It can be programmed with FORScan, got the module for less than 100 bucks. Make sure you order to match VIN, I tried everything with force scan changing all kinds of settings, but I think it has something to do with the firmware. Maybe in the future update it will get resolved, what’s happening is that the module is not responding to the hall effects sensors on the power running boards, keeping the motors on. I tested all this with my pico scope

Yep, my RH running board is doing the same thing. Randomly will keep running. Was working fine until I foolishly updated the DSM.

Where's the best place to order a new DSM that's VIN matched and hopefully has the outdated firmware?

Mind sharing the source (if allowed here) where you ordered the replacement DSM?

I got it from the dealer here in Pensacola, but Tasca parts and others have it, needs to be ordered to your ViN due to multiple versions of the DSM

Sure it's a long shot, and will never be read...but @Ford Motor Company we probably have a bad DSM update on the loose.

Quick edit: I ran the self test on the DSM and no change in outcome sadly. Really looks like a bad update.
