The other day my running boards randomly deployed while I was working outside. I noticed the passenger side kick switch works and the driver's doesn't. Forscan has code B15D8:24 stored for Left Power Running Board Kick Switch: Signal Stuck High. Wiring looks good, so I unplugged the switch and plugged it back in. As soon as you plug it back in, the running boards cycle as if you pressed the switch. So, I figure that proves the switch itself is the issue.

I can't find the switch part number anywhere - it looks like it's part of the main running board itself (named "Mat") and is around $800. No parts diagrams seem to single it out, which seems crazy because it looks like it's intended to be a fairly easy replacement.

Anyone know the part number or have the same failure? If I can get the switch inexpensively, I'll do it myself. If the only option is replacing the whole thing, you bet it'll be under warranty at the dealer instead!

@superfordman I think you were looking into this once. Did you ever determine a p/n for just the PRB kick-switch?

Not really, I did some looking and maybe found something that would work as a replacement, but once I got my boards on and got use to them, I saw no need in adding the switch. I just set the extend time to longer and just open the door quick if needed. Of course, last time I checked the only way to get the switch through Ford is with the whole board assembly so that is out of the question.

That confirms what I thought. I'll have the dealer look at it, that way they can replace the whole thing on Ford's dime if that's really what has to happen. Was hoping to not waste their time or mine and just buy a switch, but oh well!

Dealer confirmed they need to replace the running board and the switch doesn't come as its own part. They ordered one under warranty and we are waiting for its arrival.

Might be a 'disposable' part that ford doesn't want back, see if you can keep it.

If it were a complete assembly with motors I'd consider asking, but this is just the board itself with the integrated switch (don't understand why MSRP is over $1200 for it).

Just to get the switch out and inspect. Being free if the teardown becomes destructive then there's no harm. Ford charges a lot for those boards. I lucked out and got a whole set with arms/motors for 800
