I think the bigger limitation from the factory on towing and payload is actually the tires. You can't have low(ish) ply tires that are optimized for light weight and fuel economy and expect to carry a ton.Maybe some day the engineers will have a motor driven cam assembly that can add more rear spring rate for towing and then flip a switch and go back to unladen great ride. Or go back to the days of air shocks that can be aired up for loads. Flip a tow/haul switch and sag is gone from tongue weight of beefy trailer. Sticking trucks butt in air from factory seems like an archaic way to make suspension design.
