‘21 F150 XLT 5.0 70,000 miles getting some paint peeling off roof of truck. Anyone else seeing this issue? Probably 3” long x 1/4 “ Wide. Was a small spot and I hit it with a do it yourself car wash wand and it started flaking off. Thinking of touching up with a duplicolor product touch up paint applicator.

I thought the manufactures got past this problem.

Surprised...but not Surprised....... when you have robots doing something that you needs eyes on to check. Spray gun plug for a second, debris on the surface, ect....sorry to hear about this....will be checking my 21 roof today.

Depending on the size of the damaged area, simply applying touch up paint may not be a permanant fix and chances are will require at the least the damaged area or possibly the entire roof to be re-sprayed. If it's a small spot, you might get away with just touchup paint but if it's a big-ish spot it may not adhere well to the aluminum w/o being properly prepped first. Probably not a bad option to contact a couple reputable mobile paint companies as well as take it to a body shop for an estimate. If it's a small spot they should be able to blend it in fairly easily and may not cost you much out of pocket.

Yeah, the pressure washer spray wands are extremely bad news for paint. The pressure and the precise spray puts an extremely large amount of pressuring a concentrated area thus getting under and lifting the paint.

What colour? I've always found Ford white was prone to peeling. Ended up blasting my Escape's A-pillar paint off with a pressure washer a few years back.

Oxford white, really wasn’t close to the surface with the wand. All great advice from everyone and thanks to all.

It's most likely that one of the robots in the paint booth sneezed and left a gob of snot on the roof and then proceeded to paint over it. That's my guess.

I have experience with painting aluminum (aircraft), aluminum must be carefully prepared prior to painting or the paint will not adhere.
