Truck was scheduled for an update over night last night. I get a message on my app telling me it failed and it’ll be attempted again tonight. I went out to the truck and tried to run it manually, did this twice and it failed both times.
Any suggestions on how to force this through. Paid extra for the damn bluecruise and going on a year now and still haven’t been able to use it yet. Pretty poor showing for ford.
Really trying to avoid taking to the dealership for all of these updates as it’s a bit of a drive. Kind of defeats the whole OTA feature

Jesse will confirm exactly why the update failed, but my money is on battery health. I could be wrong, of course.

But it's getting pretty common.

Better not be a bad battery. Damn thing isn’t even a year old.

Unfortunately age is meaningless.. the early builds had batteries that were not the best. Does your auto start stop work?

Ok. Let me take a look as soon as I can get to my computer. I’ll let you know.

Reason a I ask is if your at a light and the truck never turns the engine off at a light and when you look at the status of auto start stop it says charging that means the battery is bad. Mine did it. Would never turn off. No matter what. I tried everything but once I put a new battery in it works all the time now when it should.

I’ll let you know here in a few

So as I suspected, @JEB was correct. Battery is the issue. THis OTA is the largest OTA Ford has ever released. This one takes 3 hours or so. SO it has to have a really good battery to proceed.

I would suggest you put a charger on it and let it sit for a while. Make sure the charger has AGM logic. Make sure you use it as a charger also not as a power supply.

Yeah. This seems to be coming up a lot. We hashed this out last night on this thread. https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/need-help-ota-2-81-will-not-apply.11074/

You have to start with a healthy, fully-charged battery to do any substantial programming whether you’re doing it yourself manually via FDRS or having it pushed to you OTA. The BMS will cut you off if it thinks you don’t have enough juice to complete the process.

So if my auto stop start works intermittently , that it could be a sign of a bad battery. Would that also be the reason my 2.7.1 update to 2.7.3 failed? I don't know what you can tell from my vin , but here it is. 1FTFW1E87MFB71280 Thank you

Yeah if it most of the time says charging then yes that is an indication of a worn battery. I think it’s just common for us to associate a bad battery with unable to start or has a hard time starting the truck. The newer systems measure the battery and monitor it closely and if it senses a inadequate reserve or amp hour it will not allow the auto start stop to function.

I’ll check your vin later tonight and let you know what I see

Thanks for the suggestions, borrowed a buddy’s charger and let it charge up this afternoon, just got the app notification that the truck just got done with the update. Will this one enable the blue cruise finally?
